Just a quick question I would like some clarifaction on - Someone once told me that if your carb was under sized for your set up it could result in the engine running hotter than normal.

Is there any truth to that?

It could cause the engine to run lean, which does cause the engine to run hotter.

If that's the case, swapping to larger jets should help. But I would verify that it's running lean 1st.

OH... and it would probably only run lean during full throttle, not while cruising.

I have ran everything from a 600, 650, 750 and 850 cfm carbs on my engine with no change in engine temp. That's not to say if it is not jetted correctly it will run hotter.

well what if you run a 300 two barrell on your setup??

Well, a four barrel is basically a two barrel under normal driving conditions until you put you foot in it.

A carb that's undersized won't make anything run hot. And like the other's have said, a too lean carb could make it run warmer. A too small carb will simply act as a governor and limit the engine's top speed. Ask the boys in Nascar, they've been subjected to restrictor rings under the carbs for years, which in effect acts to limit the cfm going into the engine.
