I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I posted a few days ago about my converters on my pypes catted x failing on the same side. I believe I found out why. When I was looking at the pipe a few days ago, I noticed a series of deep scratch marks on the right side of the pipe up by where it connects to the manifold. During the installs, I believe I recalled the pipe coming a tad to close to the frame, but didnt think anything of it at the time. But now, looking at it, I believe this section of the pipe was coming too close to the frame when starting up and under load (when the engine "wiggles" the most). There is no way to bend this pipe as it is a solid connection and not a ball/socket joint. My car is stock aside from a headswap. I believe this vibration (which I thought was coming from the otherside since I had 1/4" clearance by the trans crossmember) is what cause the cat to fail.

My question is, has anyone had this problem with other aftermarket midpipes, such as the SLP catted X? I would hope SLP pipes have not had this problem. Thanx

i never installed a slp pipe. but i did have that problem on a 97 cobra i put a bassani on. what solved it for me was loosening the pipe. and slowly tighten all the nuts while holding it too give it more clearence.. depending on how bad it is this may work.

Never an issue with my Magnaflow Catted-X pipe - sufficient clearance here.

RysRed96GT:

No problems with my VRS x-pipe.

FWIW, it helps to use a floor jack to get the x-pipe dead parallel with the floor of the car and then tighten up the manifold connections. If you did this and still have contact problems, then a muffler shop might be able to help you out (rather than buying another x-pipe). They can weld in a new converter, too.

Good luck.

well, since i returned my pypes midpipe, i'm most likely gonna get the slp catted X. i was also thinking of just taking it to a shop for the install because i frankly dont feel like doing it anymore, i must've installed and removed the midpipe like 8 times this year.

but also, if there happens to be some clearance issue still, is it alright to slightly bend stainless-steel if i take it to a shop? and how much would you guys think it would cost for a shop to install it? thanks again.

and just fyi, this clearance issue was up by the passengers side manifold, not the left side.

Hahaha you should have got a Bassani X pipe like I told you too
but,you didn't belive me.This isn't the first time I have heard of
people having problems with slp products thats why I avoid all
slp products like the plauge!
(Bassani has fixed all their issues with the X pipes so,they are safe
to buy now)

how about motor mount. You did say pass. side usually its the drivers side with the problem but its still a possibility. Look at the front bottom of the engine at the oil pan and compare the space between the steering rack and pan if the motor is sitting to one side the mounts are shot.
