OK, I know Mike, Charlie (& others) are very active SCOA folks, so guys, here's a chance to "toot your horn", and maybe pick up at least one new member... Same for any SOEC, Team Saleen, & MCA members.

I know the SCOA people are active in Denver & Indiana - what are the benefits for people in other areas (like Kansas City)? What's in the newsletters? Restoration tips, facts & figures, classifieds, etc? What else does my membership buy?

How about Team Saleen? Who's a member? What are the benefits there?

I'm already an MCA member, and have dutifully paid my $30/year for about 5 years now. Other than a magazine & cheaper entry fees for National shows, there's not much benefit to me personally. (Well, for you MCA members, the January Mustang Times DOES feature my old 65 & it's twin. )

I'm just wondering with all the "free" internet-based clubs/forums, how many dues-paying clubs do I need??? NO offense intended toward ANYONE - just thinking out loud? "Sell me", guys...

Bob,

Here are a few notes/comments from me first as the President of the Saleen Club of America, and then simply as a Saleen owner.

As President of SCOA:
First a bit of history. The SCOA was thought up by a few Saleen owners who "wanted more out of a Saleen club". The idea of a "new club" came about some time around 2002. The Club was formed during 2003, and began to solicit "Charter Members" during 2003, with a launch date for the Club on January 1, 2004.

Clearly we are still a new Club, and we continue to grow.

From our Club website:
We are a club whose main focus is fun, friendship and Saleens. The main goals of the club are to celebrate the ownership of Saleen automobiles, the preservation and recording of the history of Saleen automobiles, and celebration of the Saleen racing heritage.

We welcome all Saleen owners, and automotive enthusiasts to the club.

The members of the Saleen Club of America (the most fun Saleen Club in the World) enjoy exciting track events, internationally recognized concours d'elegance, and a variety of social activities.

Memberships dues are $50 a year.
(There is a discount given to renewals who sign up for an additional 2 or 3 year period)

What do you get for your $50?
From our Club website:
Members receive the monthly newsletter SaleenZine - with a calendar of events, classified ads, Racing coverage, and more - as well as the quarterly magazine PoweRRR, containing in-depth features on particular Saleen types, interviews with "Saleen people", visits to Saleen-related production facilities and museums, information on Saleen literature and models, and coverage of Saleen gatherings both here and abroad, all thoroughly illustrated with colorful photos and drawings.

Our "Flagship product" is the magazine, PoweRRR. Issues are @50 pages (full color), and contain articles and information that you can not get elsewhere. Our 8th magazine is currenly printing/shipping (3rd Q, 2005- minor production delays, or it would have already made it to everyone's mailbox), and we are putting the final touches on our 9th magazine (4th Q, 2005).

We work to facilitate events across the country as both Regional and National events, and as a Club, have hosted some of the largest Saleen getherings ever. Some of the events we have participated in, or hosted ourselves, are posted in our "Event Image Gallery" at our Club website.

If you, or anybody else have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.

As a Saleen owner:
When I first heard about a new Saleen club several years ago I was a bit sceptical as to "why". After learning more about the idea, I decided to get involved, as the ideas seemed to mirror those of my own, and became the first president of the Saleen Club of America.

As listed above, "We are a club whose main focus is fun, friendship and Saleens. The main goals of the club are to celebrate the ownership of Saleen automobiles, the preservation and recording of the history of Saleen automobiles, and celebration of the Saleen racing heritage."

That sums up why I would want to join a car club. I want to have fun, and make new friends, and while at it, help preserve and record the history of Saleen.

I have met some great friends from Club membership.

Thanks for reading my ramble.

I hope others offer up their opinions as well.
