Im getting a wierd clunking when either letting off of the clutch into any gear or letting off of the accelerator in any gear. Its nothing big, just feels like something is tapping the fllorboard. I replaced the clutch cable about 2 months ago, but did not change the fork, would this have anything to do with it? (ford cable, fork came with it) If not, any insight on where to start looking would be great

Very good suggestions above. I'd also add crossmember bushings to the list of things to check.

Good luck.

most of the time it's loose driveshaft bolts, but all too often, as in my case, it's the rear end that's making that banging noise, and just begging for a rebuild.

motor mounts and crossmember mounts are all brand new as well....as for the rear, the sound is definately not coming from the rear, but i know my posi no longer works. Ill have the check the driveshaft bolts this weekend. its coming from under the drivers floorboard so i doubt its the actual rear. can a clutch fork cause this? i have the new one but didnt put it in when i swapped cables. looked fine at the time thanks for all of the replies guys, any more opinions welcomed

Ok guys, i think ive narrowed down the noise a bit...doesnt happen until driving for a bit so i think that eliminates driveshaft problems (u-joints/loose bolts) i figured that it would happen all of the time if it were related to that. i also noticed today that my front left swaybar bushing is pretty much non-existant. ill change that and the links to see if it helps at all, but i doubt it. btw, what size swaybar would my car have? its a 91 lx hatchback 5.0 theres about 50 different sizes available

You have to measure the bar itself. I use a Vernier caliper, but a soft tape measure or crescent wrench work for measurements. That's the only way to know for sure.

If you have a prybar, I'd go around to the various mounts and give them a pry and see what kind of movement you have. That's how I track down bad mounts. Do check those DS bolts (12 mm, 12 point socket).

Good luck.

I have noticed that my crossmember will move up and down when pryed. Is there anyway to secure it better? I used new bushings, sleeves, and bolts when putting it back together.
