I've heard various things and I wanted to see what you guys thought about this. I have a new OEM clutch that was installed and i've got around 150 miles on it so far, not giving it much throttle and definately not launching it. I've heard 500 miles before flooring it, and about 1000 miles before launching it to break it in. Is this true or am I wasting my time?

500 miles of city driving / shifting as much as possible.

Straight highway miles defeats the purpose.

It's very important you baby the car during those 500 miles though. It's tough driving like a grandma in certain conditions, but it's for the best.

When I installed my clutch there was a considerable difference in chatter from the beginning to when it was 'broken in'.

If you're going to be on the highway, my best suggestion is to try and pull into every off ramp, downshifting as much as possible and then get back on the freeway just for that much more shifting. More of this in the first 100 miles, all the rest just take it easy.

Morning commute / bumper to bumper shifting (longer periods of clutch slipping) isn't a good thing though. Avoid at all costs until it's broken in.

The boys at MPH did my clutch install and told me about problems with the 500 mile period. I tend to believe MPH when it relates to the 4.6.

Why take the chance?

I'd always favor a break in process to make sure everything goes over smoothly.
