I was downshifting today and heard my clutch cable snap. I had already ordered a clutch w/ a cable and was wondering how big of a pita it was to change the cable. I've changed clutches but never a cable so any info would be great
cable is simple, 15 minute job. disconnect from bracket under dash and from clutch fork, route the new one through the fire wall and hook it back up and adjust. youll be fine if you have done a clutch
The clutch cable isn't hard if you are a short, skinny guy. :
If you aren't, be prepared to stuff 10 pounds of coffee an a 5 pound can or remove the driver's seat. When you remove the driver's seat, there is more room, but you will need to put some plywood over the seat mount studs that stick up from the floor. If you don't, they will definitely scratch up your back. Big hands don't help either...I have been told that it is much easier if you peel the carpet back from under the clutch pedal.
The binding common to adjustable cables is often due to misplacement of the adjusting nuts on the fork end of the cable. Both nuts should be on the back side of the fork so that the domed nut faces the fork and the other nut serves as jam or locknut to the domed nut.
Have fun and keep lots of Band-Aids handy – you may need them.

LMAO nah nah it's really simple... Listen, I'm a 6'3" 205lbs guy and here was my technique. Set the seat back as far as it would go, and lay the seat back too. Sit in the seat backwards and slide under the steering wheel. Make sure you have all the tools you need before you attempt this feat and make sure to stretch Your head will grind into the floor board as you are trying to do the work. If you can't tilt your steering wheel up ('90 or newer) then it's usually best to come at it from an angle outside of the car. Good luck. haha Take some video while you work.
When installing the aftermarket quadrant it is easier to just cut the pawl off then trying to break it, at least in my experience (damn nylon wouldn't break). You will need one of those hacksaw blade tools that is just a handle though. The fox3 is a nightmare to install an aftermarket quadrant in vs a newedge due to how the firewall is designed.
