Clutch in - click, click

So this is getting annoying. Everytime I push the clutch in I hear a clicking from the pedals - kinda like a relay opening/closing. I had my head under there this weekend and I think it's the clutch safety switch. It's the small gray box with a white plastic rod through it that connects to the clutch, so I assume that's what it is. How the heck does that come out of there? I just want to by pass it, but it's too tight and too buried for me to even see where it connects.

COnsider yourself lucky - most of ours have stripped enough where you need to put the pedal through the floor to close the switch (make it click).

I never removed mine so I cant help. I did want to say that if anyone but you (including guys in shops) ever drive your car, I'd keep that switch there. You can adjust the thing.

Good luck.

Headers, O/R H, and flows...how much louder would you want a street car? :nice:

I don't know why mine is now so screwed up - used to be fine - but now it clicks about half way through the pedal travel and then again at the bottom.

Just break it off, huh? I hate just breaking things out, but okay.

Thanks,

Do you have a steel bearing retainer in your Tranny?

The reason I ask is because I had a "clicking", "poping" noise in my car when ever I depressed the clutch pedal. At first I thought it was the clutch quadrant so I replaced the stock one for a Steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster...still had the click. Well long story short the problem ended up being the steel bearing retainer. The steel shaft was sliding out of the housing it was pressed in everytime I used the clutch. You could see where it was hitting the clutch disc which is where the "clicking" sound was coming from.

Have some one listen under the car when you depress the clutch (motor off). If they hear the clicking sound coming from the tranny I would hazard a guess that the steel shaft is sliding.

Well, it wasn't that switch afterall. I would have sworn it was, but it's gone now and still clicking. Seems like there might be some misalignment between my quadrant and FWA. Anyone have similar clicking issues from their quadrant? It's only with the pedal all the way down. This is really annoying.

hivolt - I don't think it's coming from under the car. It's from around the pedals.

There are two switches on the clutch pedal - is it the other one?

Is the firewall flexing a little bit?

Good luck.

I do see a very small amount of flex in the firewall.

The second switch is over by the quadrant, correct? What's that for?

Also, there were two harnesses plugging into the switch I pulled out (the switch on the clutch pedal with the white plastic rod through it). I found which one needed jumped together so the car would start and I spliced it. What the heck is the other one for? My guess was a kill for cruise control when the clutch was pressed in, but I tried and all that still works.

Thanks,

I have the same clicking, and can't figure it out for the life of me. I have a MM quadrant and fwa with a replacement stock cable. Everything works fine, but I can't track down the source of the click. If you fix it,please let me know what you did.

Hey, just so we're not duplicating effort, do you mind if I ask what you've tried? My plan for tonight was to pull the quadrant and shim it to one side, and then to the other and see where it best lines up. However, I think the MM quadrant comes with shims, so you may have already tried this.

I guess I'm not the only one with this problem afterall.

Well, I havent really done anything except try to track the noise down. I crawled under the dash and repetedly pushed the clutch pedal with my hand and felt around to see if I could feel or see what was causing it. My firewall is not flexing, the cable is running directly through the center of the fwa, nothing seems to be binding. It almost seems like when you push in the pedal you are setting a spring or something, and then when you push it again you release the spring and hear it click. I know there is no spring, but I don't know how else to describe it. I wonder if the bushing between the pedal and the part that it pivots on could be worn out and causing the click. Just a thought.
