Clutch making small chirping when out... help

I noticed today that my clutch makes a small chip,chip,chip sound like a bird except very faint. I noticed it when I was in a drive through and the building was right next to me. When im out in a parking lot or anything like that you can hardley hear it... but when I go where something is around me or close to me you can hear it plain as day. Anyone have any ideas? I had an old 83 mustang about 5 years ago and I remember it doing the same thing but I never tried to fix it.... any input is appreciated guys, thanks

Throwout bearing. Notoriously short-lived on fords.

How hard is it to replace this bearing??? Also, any idea on the cost? Thanks for the quick response....

Cheap to fix(bout 10 bucks for the part) but the labour requires the tranny to come out.

mine is doing the same but a little worse. there is a thread here that I have posted in about greasing it (white lithium spray) but im scared of getting it on the clutch itself. The last time mine was alot worse than this, and after a couple of months the "little balls" of the actual bearing started to fall out and fell out of the vent hole in the bottom of the bell housing. This was with 80,XXX miles on stock clutch, and Ive never heard of it happeing to anyone else. So guess it was an extreme case. But you should have heard it with no balls in the bearing. sounded like the devil screaming when I disenguaged the clutch.

yea thats definately your throwout bearing, my old 5.0 sounded like a cricket chirpin everytime i disengaged the clutch, those are a pita to replace btw...

Mine started chirping like you said.....lasted 3 days. Better take it easy until you get it fixed. I didn't have the resources to get the car high enough off the ground to drop the exhaust and the trans. I'm embarassed to say it cost $200 in labor alone. And thats the "buddy, ive known you for ten years and you've rebuilt four trannies for me" price.

Mine has been chirping for like 2 years now even after a new clutch and new TOB. The new chirps too. Whenever i get it serviced i get the tech to grease it with the white grease and it quits for maybe 3 days then does it again, ive learned to deal with it.
