I agree.

Do some searches on clutch cables and you will find that this thought is echoed frequently.

The OEM cable is much tougher than the majoruty of adjustable units. If I recall, MM has some good tech on their website about this.

this is one of those parts you don't want to cheap out on

I'm still not sure why you're buying a cable

Your problem is most likely in your quadrant and firewall adjuster. do not buy a new cable

You're getting warmer. It's not the style of quadrant I'd choose, but MANY folks appear to like the triple-hooks.

You still need a Firewall adjuster.

Ok from what I understand the stock quadrant is thist plastic thing that has teeth on it that allot it to adjust for slack in the cable. So the quadrant itself has teeth right? And if so how does an aftermarket one exactly work. Ive read what they have but it doesnt seem to explain exactly. If this has no teeth. How is it going to adjust for slack?

Therian is correct. The stock quadrant has teeth because the assembly is actually two pieces - the quadrant-teeth mesh with the pawl. These two being able to mesh and move is what allows adjustability. The teeth have nothing to do with the dynamics of the cable movement however.

WHen you ditch this set-up (because of the weak point - teeth meshing and stripping), you need to make the cable sheath adjustable and the FWA allows this. So the new quad will have no teeth since it does not need to mesh with anything. And since it doesnt mesh with anything, the FWA is needed to achieve adjustment.

I think that didn't clear things up nicely.

ok well I got lucky today while changing the Harmonic balancer at work and a friend of my friend who has an older 5.0 said he had one laying around a steeda I think and that he never even took it out of the box or something like that. Anyway he said I could have it. So that helps me out but now if i install that I am still going to have the problem untill i get the firewall adjuster?

lol, whuuuu doggy down boy, lol I am getting the firewall adjuster. Its just going to take a cuple days till they ship but. But my question was can I put in the quadrant only till the adjuster gets here. :SNSign:

i doubt it. it will probably be way out of adjustment.

Ok well I am going to pick up the firewall adjuster at murreys speed and custom (i know its spelled wrong...) because i need it tomorrow. Ill keep you guys posted.

For a day or two, you could get away without the FWA by either:

Getting lucky with the cable and quad interface.

Or using something as a means of shimming the cable at the firewall (a manual FWA of sorts).

w00t.... \m/ ^-^ \m/ It feels great now and shifts smoooth as hell. I ended up using a steeda quadrant which was free thanks to a friend and a steeda FWA which i picked up at murrays S&C for $30 and my problem has been solved.
