Clutch problems??

Hey all,


Im brand new to this website, got a question.

Bought a 93 Mustang LX about 2 weeks ago

-Had it insured about a week ago
-Been driving it ever since with no problems
-Car drives excellent, it has had the motor rebuilt with forged pistons, e-cam, TFS heads, shorty headers, flowmaster exhaust, and centerforce dual friction clutch, etc...

Heres the problem:

Yesterday was driving around and I gave the throttle a quick jab, heard a pop sound come from right above the front end of the shifter..

sounded like a backfire but I wasnt sure, car still drove fine after that.. got home and turned it off.. Took the car out later that night and was driving around when i started to hear some rattling sound coming from just infront of the shifter down below... today drove it again, and the sound got worse... as well the car has like no hookup.. feels like the clutch isnt grabbing the flywheel right..


the engine idles and runs fine when im not in gear, and the transmission doesnt grind or anything when shifting gears.. so im thinking the clutch is the problem, any ideas??

I've been asking around and the general concensus is that I popped a pressure plate spring and thats why its not grabbing right... just wanted to make sure this is the case before i order a new clutch..

If it is the clutch.. what should i be buying to replace it?

I know its hard to tell from describing it over the internet but i was looking for some feedback..

Starting to think it might be a valve train problem... popped the hood and the noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine.. going to pop off the valve covers and check it out..
