For a mild car my favorite is actually the FMS heavy duty. It has a great feel to it. I have a Center Force myself and I hate it. It feels heavy. I'm going to get spec or McLeod next time around. I have heard good things about the Kevlar lined McLeod units from a lot of folks.

Might want to check your cable routing. The CF series of clutches are softer than the FMS especially.

If you have a choice between FMS HD or King Cobra...get the King Cobra (another 10-20 bucks) but worth the better pedal feel and softer pedal. It holds the same amount of power.

FMS HD pressure plates and clutches are to heavy compared to other clutches in it's class. Expensive or not.

A King Cobra (to the original poster) is what you will want. Good price and just right for your car.

I'm thinking about getting an aluminum flywheel and new clutch so I will be extra careful to make sure the cable is routed correctly. Although I doubt that it is wrong right now- you never know. Thanks for the idea.

I have a spec in mine and love it now. It chattered for a little while, but now it just grabs great and the pedal feel isnt all that much harder than stock. I got the stage 2 kit if I remember correctly.....Grabs like a mother F*#$&!

how much does it cost to instal a clutch? My car went to get a new clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster and cable and they said when they went to put the cable it wouldnt erach cause the clutch was too worn down, there putting a king cobra but said instal would be about 500 bucks, does it cost 300 bucks to isntal a clutch?!

Get your car back from them immediatly!!! They are ripping you off!!!!!! It does NOT sound like you need a new clutch. Sounds like they did not adjust the firewall adjuster and/or cable corectly. They are screwing you.

wait the cable wouldn't reach cause the clutch is worn down, thats a load of bs. I don't care if you have no clutch left if the cable doesn't reach its because they didn't route it right.

The firewall isn't adjusted all the way for freedom of the cable or it is routed incorrectly.

I would expect your average install price is around $200 bucks even from a "local mechanic."

hmm well my car is at jake lomata.. he does magazine tests and such, weird that they would screw me over and i think the clutch is in already not sure though. Thats weird, i brought them a mm quadrant and firewall adjuster and a oem ford cable and they said the mm quadrant dosent work with the cable b ecause the cable doesnt reach the clutch becaue it is worn down. They told me they could put a steeda quadrant in there and it would work. That does seem alittle weird

Im not really sure what they have done. They called me and told me that the quadrant is in, and it dosent reach because the clutch is gone, and that its not worth putting old parts back in the car and i dont remember exactly what they said, i told them let me call my dad and talk to him about it, and there like well were just gonna go ahead and put a king cobra in it its cheaper then a factory and some other stuff, i just said oh

The first time they called me they said the car drove great and didnt seem like it needed anything and asked me why i got the new quadrant and f/a. I told them my car used to have some problems getting into gear so i just wanted to get it over with and improve the stock one. Then they called me back again and told me the clutch is gone

I also remember, the first phone call, jay from the shop called me and said, that the quadrant dosent work, because the clutch it worn down and the cable wont reach it, he said we can put a steeda qudrant in it because its a different design and make it work but i dont know what your gonna do with the mm qudrant because they probably wont take it back since its been installed. He asked what do you want us to do, and i said well what do you think i need a new clutch? And hes like well we can just put a steeda in it and it would work, and he said he drove the car before and it drove perfect, and i just said i didnt know, and he said he would call back if he had any questions.

About 10 mins later patrick called and said that the clutch is completly gone and there gonna put a king cobra in it and it would run me about 500 with labor, i just said well let me call my dad and talk to him about what clutch and stuff, and he said well were just gonna put the king cobra in it, its a pretty good clutch and cheaper then a factory clutch.

Im still pretty confused about the whole thing

i've finally got all my parts so i can now throw my tko 500 in my 87 gt. then i figured hell, might as well upgrade my clutch cable to an adjustable. while i'm at it, maybe a firewall adjuster and quadrant. my car's mostly stock right now but i'm in the process of building a 347. victor jr. heads, edlebrock rpm II intake, x-pipe, flowmasters, e303 or maybe f303 cam, and some other stuff. figure i'll just buy a kit thats got all 3. what do u guys think of this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=7989594151&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT
I've heard steeda is good. a guy at the shop said he'd sell me a billet kit for $100.00. i've seen kits cheaper than that, but i want something good. any recommendations?

the biggest thing to get when you buy the kits like these is a geniune ford cable not an aftermarket one. I actually bought me quadrant and firewall adjuster together and bought the ford cable seperate. Plus you want a aluminum type quadrant so it is rigid and doesn't defeclt when pressed like a plastic or composite does.

You may be talking about the OEM cable/clutch fork kit for $40 bucks on www.buyfordracing.com. Works great on my car and can't beat the price

is that ford cable you bought adjustable? if so, i didn't know those existed. i've heard that you can't make much adjustment with just a firewall adjuster. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/cq.asp#cables i saw this yesterday and it looks nice, but its only for stock ford cables. i've heard that aftermarket adjustables are bad to stretch and cause other problems, but at the same time, i don't wanna be limited as far as being able to make adjustements. ofcoarse, that setup would probly last long time. am i gonna have to make a compromise? any ideas?
