What would happen if you installed delete plates with out the delete option on the tune, i.e. just a normal canned tuned (xcal-2)?

Well, I believe the tune is mostly to disengage the motor non-existant motor. I think it would be driveable, but you'd have a CEL and the computer would be confused because it would think it was operating something that wasn't there.

Are you sure about this? The only reason I ask is because I could have sworn that the air/fuel tables were also adjusted with the tune, not just disengaging the motor.

I could be wrong though, I'll look around and see if I can find were I found that.

Scott ! you're absolutely correct..As a matter of fact, both Doug from Bama and Brent from Brenspeed confirmed that the air/fuel tables, are indeed adjusted for their CMCV delete plate tunes, and DO NOT recommend installing the delete plates without the updated tuning files, otherwise the air/fuel may end up too lean, and actually lose significant power as well..

I don't know man, I could have sworn that was the case, but I just found were I read that, it was were Doug posted on a different forum regarding the install on his car for testing. He posted his results after tuning as well.

Doug from Bama said:
Hey guys,

This was using my standard CMVC delete plate tune for 93. Basically the same tune I've been using for all of my previous CMVC delete plate orders. I was checking it for hp and a/f differences and it was as I expected in that the a/f doesn't change when you install these. I've tuned plenty of cars on the dyno with them already but never a true before and after deal. I strapped the car to the dyno and did the before and never disconnected it. It only took around 30 minutes for the complete swap.

I can PM a link to the thread were this was posted if requested.

I don't know, I could have sworn more was adjusted and maybe more could be, but since reading this, I'm not entirely sure it's required, know what I mean?

I honestly don't know what else to say Scott ! but Doug definitely told me that when I'm ready to do the CMCV upgrade ? to just let him know, and he'll go ahead and e-mail an upgraded tune file for the delete plates..So if I were you ? I'd definitely check with Doug personally and make certain, before assuming anything..However, what I mentioned in my earlier post concerning Brenspeed ? took place during a phone conversation I had with Brent, in which he did confirm that his CMCV delete plate tunes ! do indeed adjust the air/fuel timing curves..

If it were me then, I'd rather be safe than sorry and look in to getting a tune for them then. I know I did when I got mine, I just didn't know this for sure to answer the original poster. I'd hate to install them and then really mess something up by trying to save some money not getting a $50 tune.

Thanks for the info!

I know a tune should be used, but if you're not going WOT, you should be ok. I guess I assumed it would just be temporary, but judging from the original question, it does not appear so. A tune is most definitely necessary for anything more than a few days of granny driving.

mine works really well and can take a fair amount

I'd never let my granny drive my Stang!

Wait, you said who, not who's.

That's exactly why I asked both Dave and Brent from Brenspeed those very same questions, as I neither want myself or anybody else to risk messing their Stangs up just to save a lousy $50 by not getting the delete plate tunes..That being said, I'd also much rather be safe than sorry, by following Brenspeed's recommendation in investing the $50 towards the CMCV tune files..Because as far as I'm concerned ! I'm not about to risk playing Russian roulette with my Mustang, and lets face it ! can anyone really guarantee their won't be any serious problems, even if you don't go into WOT ??? I really don't think so.. But then again ! what's the point in even installing the delete plates, if your unable to use them at WOT anyhow ? seems to me, this would defeat the entire purpose behind doing the CMCV upgrade, in the first place..Besides, just the thought of having to drive my Stang like a Granny, even for a day ! would drive me nuts
