Is the reason a cobra with the same exhaust set up sounds different from a GT due to the 2V setup and higher compression?

What setup could you put on a GT (2000 GT 5-spd) that would sound similar to a cobra? The car is totaly stock right now and way too quiet!!

Getting it to sound like a cobra? Hmmmm swap out your 2v and put in a 4v motor . On your exhaust longtubes, a x pipe (some people will tell you cats others will say no cats) and take your pick from the cat-back kits...........bassani, SLP, flowmaster, borla, Magnflow ect................

its due to the fact that the Cobra has a 4V motor over the GT's 2V

Since the GT is 2 valve any exhaust will sound different on it than a Cobra. And the Cobra can wind up to 7000RPM so its gonna be hard to get that sound from a 2 valve that can only hit 6000RPM. Do a search on here about making a Mustang GT sound like a Ferarri...

P.S. My 00 GT has a O/R H pipe eith Flowmaster Super 40's. Sounds loud and deep. Also check out this sight and listen to different exhaust combos for GT's http://forums.mustangexhaust.com/sounds/4.6sounds.htm

Thanks all. I was very aware of the 2V vs 4V. This is our second GT. On the previous one (97 GT) we had the OR X pipe with american thunder cat back and although it sounded good, still wasn't quite loud enough. Any suggestions? Any setups to avoid? Is there really that much of a difference in the X pipes? I believe the previous x pipe was manufactured by Holley? Not a good fit, I had to do some modifications to get it to fit.

Bassani X+ Bassani or Borla Catback. I have 50 series flowmasters and Im going to put on the Bassani or Borla Catback(with different tips of course) and see if thats the sound Im looking for, and If it isnt Im going to instal the catted bassani x pipe.

Ive heard both setups and they are equally great sounding, although different.

Heads and compression ratio cause the variance in exhaust note.

My O/R H with Flows is plenty loud. Also deeper tone than the X. Could always go loudmouth....

if you really want a loud setup with out being too raspy. Have a low but medium type idle sound but a wicked mashing the gas sound. go for what i have. I would recommend longtubes over what i have but a nice 1 5/8" primary longtube header with a decent off-road X piper and a MAC catback.

compression, valve size /number, cam size, how fast it revs. they all factor into sound a bit.

I mean any engine is like this. I mean the 350 in my iroc sound nothing like the 350 in my 66 chevelle I sold last year.

stock heads vs trick flow, stock cam vs performance cams. I mean they both had headers and flowmasters. close to the same compresion. the head and cam difference was night and day though. my iroc sound OK but the chevelle just sounded sick. I would rev 6500 vs 5500 though.

the 4v has different heads and cams than the 2v. different rpm range as well.

My friend has a 03 Cobra with the same set up as me, and you cant tell our exhaust apart form an idle or a normal take off. At WOT its a little different.LOL
