cobra intake dyno

For a completely stock motor, I'd say around 10rwhp. If you have heads/cam with a stock unported intake, then swap to a Cobra intake, then maybe 20-25rwhp. I have an Explorer intake which is the same as the Cobra. I felt a very noticable increase in power from it after 3000rpms. This is on a stock motor.

im not too sure about my cam, it is really lumpy and continues to make power in the top end past 6000rpms. someone told me it might be an x303. who knows.

the only way to check your cam is to pull off your timing cover and check the stamp on the camshaft itself..

thanks. how good are afr's 185cc aluminum heads? i was thinking about getting them. saw on a dyno sheet add about 60hp on a completely stock 302. probably get almost 100hp on my stang while tuning the fuel pressure.

If you are pulling hard past 6000, then it might be an e cam. A B cam stops pulling at like 5600 and an F cam wont fit in a stock motor.

The GT40/Cobra/Explorer intakes are lower priced used than the aftermarket stuff used or new normally and can make the same or better power (depending on other engine componants) as aftermarket intakes up to about the 300RWHP level. Take a look at these complied dyno results I have accumulated over the years - I have the dyno sheets for almost all of them...........

tmoss have you ever got that before and after dyno results on your ported stock lower and no other changes?

That still eludes me, just the afters so far, and many times guys are making more than just the lower mod for the afters. I have several dynos of combos with my ported lower with different combos and some guys report back the changes in their track times - here is the latest.........I asked him about whether he had used the Explorer or 5.0 cam - that might explain his top end lay down, as could his not knowing his fuel pressure. He needs a dyno tune for A/F............

Hi Tom.
I got some new times for you. Run the car yesterday. I run new best.
[email protected] & [email protected] - I improved .4 tenths & gained 3 mph. But
I know there's more in it. My car just seems to lack a lot of top end.
Do you have any idea what can help me. The only other mod i added
with your lower was a 65Tb. The car really lights them up on the street.
Also I had a cooling problem it kept running hot I give it a good cool
down but the water wasn't running right so I think I will get you new
times next week. My radiator busted and ended my night early fan clutch
give out and the blades broke thru.

Thanks bud
Frank
P.S. New tracks times soon to come in 2 weeks.

it keeps pulling hard past 6k. is there a website that has sound clips of 5.0's running with different cams to make a comparison? i have read a few posts of other guys using a f cam on their stock motor having bad low end power.

and thats exactly what i have. im currently running stock 10* timing with 87 octane. when i bought the car it was on 26* base timing. its hard to compare the low end power before because the clutch was wasted.

i put 87 in the car when i first got it and had lots of detonation sounds and i thought the timing was just too high and brought it down to factory specs.

maybe now that i have a new clutch i could advance it again and see if it increases low end power. i get alot of bucking at idle to 1500rpms when im NOT on the gas. i read the fcam causes this. i was thinking of putting in a stock cam.
was the car set at 26* static timing, SPOUT out (locked out timing)? i cant imagine you could really run 26* base timing AND the puter allowing advance. sure the balancer's outer ring did not go south? then again, i guess you wold not ping under load if the clutch is slipping to all get out. :D

dont forget to ask folks who say that XXX cam is great up high, or down low, etc, if the advanced or retarded it upon install. that can make a world of difference.

Try running 89 or 93 octane and move timing up to 16-18* intiital and see if some low end comes back. If not, then going with another cam or a stock cam may be the best move.

And as far as "newer" intakes giving you better or more power - read this.....

hey man i gotta get u the dyno graph of the rpm 2 compared to the explorer
with your lower ported, all i can say is your intake kills the rpm 2 i
lost 24 ftlbs of torque and 7 hp and under the curve the performer rpm2
could not compete on horsepoaer or tq the intake is coming off u will see
more when i get the graphs on the same chart, oh and the explorer is going
back on u should have good info to post and this was with nothing else
changed ill definetly recommend your porting to people thanks
