cobra intake spacer

when i installed my upper and lower intake with out the spacer and i started it up and it went to 6k rpm and when i put the spacer on it idles normal, any ideas why, im gonna run the spacer regardless just wondering what this happened

On my car, with no spacer, the throttle cable interferes with the valve cover. Could it be that without the spacer, the cable or throttle body linkage was wedging against your valve cover holding the throttle open? Just a guess....

its possible, doesnt really matternow, runs fine with the spacer

It could have been what Michael said...my throttle cable/opener is close with my taller aftermarket valve covers and no spacer on my Performer...but it wouldn't affect my throttle...I would think you would have to put the intake on at an angle to get that kind of "throttle leverage" the way it is positioned...and when your doing an intake you can't really put it on at an angle...

Well anyways...it appears you may have had a vacuum leak (improper seal) between the upper/lower...and when you put the spacer on it could have sealed up better with it being with the help of the spacer or you doing it "right" this time...I know I had a vaccum leak at my upper/lower and my car would rev up right after start up and shut itself off...it was kind of scary when you hear a loud screeching sucking in sound...when you don't know what it is...

I wouldn't expect it would happen on a vehicle with an egr spacer. I've eliminated my egr and spacer which moves my throttle body about 1.75" closer to the intake - and because the valve cover sits at an angle, when you move the t/b closer to the intake without a spacer - that's when it hits the valve cover on the high side. At least mine did - Explorer intake (Exp. upper/GT40 lower).
