Do ALL the 4V Cobra motors have the "ID Tag" on the passanger valve cover??? A friend just got a "Cobra motor" and I pointed out it does not have the plaque on the valve cover, so now he's worried. Anything else helpful in identifying a Cobra motor?? Basically it's a whole motor minus the intake...

I thought only the 03/04 had the signed ID tag on the passenger valve cover?

All 96-04 cobras came with the engine builder id on the passenger valve cover. Reason it may not be there, its a reman motor, someone removed it, or its not a "cobra" motor.
What year engine is it suppose to be anyways?

That is what I though. It was supposed to be out of a 97 Cobra. I have a feeling it's a Lincoln motor. Do they come with the steel crank also?

If its a Mark VIII engine it will have the cast iron 6 bolt crank.

Ok, I found an engine decoder that worked perfect.

7G-839 is a 97 Cobra motor.

So is it a remanufactured/rebuilt engine or an original? Looks like the link is for remans.

Re: Cobra Motor ID

My Cobra has the tag missing too.........I think. There is a silver tag there but whatever was written on it has either faded away or been eaten away by a car wash hose. The numbers check out correctly though so I'm not worried.
