i currently have a 2000 gt. i sold my fox body i busted my ass for 2 years to build for it. i really like my gt, all of its modern advantages over the fox. the one thing that im missing though is the power.

ive test driven a couple cobra's, looked into financing, insurance quotes, ect ect. im ready to sell my car and move onto a cobra. i have a basic question though.

i see alot of terminators sold after 6 months/short ownership periods. why is this? is it a car that loses appeal quickly?

if i buy one, ill have payments for awhile. im just looking for some owner input before i take the plunge. i love everything about the car, even the small things i noticed in the ~10 minute drive time i got.

just want some input from owners that are past the "new car obsession" feeling i know everyone gets. any regrets? problems? ect.

Bought mine in July 2002 and I have no plans on selling it at this time. In fact I just ordered some cool hood struts and a set of 3/8 spacers and extended lugs so I can fit those massive GY GS-D3 315's on.

I do have two other vehicles besides the Cobra I can drive. Maybe those who are selling their Cobra's after 6 months are finding that the car is not really practical as a daily driver/grocery getter.

cool, mine wouldnt be a daily driver either.

why do you say its not practical though? the ones ive driven (stock) were very very silent/easy riding/easy to drive. only thing i could think of would be mileage, and its not that terrible even.

Well it's not very practical for a family to own one as their only car. You really can't tote much in them, the backseat is worthless for anyone but a small child and they are not the most fuel efficient car out there. It all depends on whether you're single, married, married with children, etc. For a single guy it would be a practical DD, but for a young family with a kid I would say it's not practical.

got ya. im 18, single, dont pack people around ever, dont drive it often.

so none of those apply to me

anyone else have input on why most dont own them very long?

No clue. I have had mine for a while now and love it. I have No plans to ever sell it. Best car i have ever owned.

i'm 21 and go to school full time and work about 30 hours a week. on average i'll make $350 a week and i can barely afford my 98, + gas, food, social life, etc, etc, etc. just imagine insurance for you. i don't get how these young kids get these cars.

my insurance goes up 10 bucks a month over my 2000 gt. so that part isint too bad.

with the car completely financed and my insurance payment, it will cost me less then half my take home pay monthly. its also my only bill, so it shouldnt be too bad.

Dont trust that quote

I just got a 99 cobra, and they quoted me 166 a month for the 99 full coverage, and a 96 V6 liability ($966 every 6 months). We got the bill, and just for the cobra its $1450 every 6 months. I'm 20 with a spotless driving record. Everywhere else I've looked offer much higher premiums than the 1450 too.

And as for how we (meaning 'me') afford it, I just got lucky with an awesome job... I will have the car completely paid off in under 4 months . As for how 18 year olds can afford 03/04 cobras is also beyond me... Way too expensive...

i will afford it by monthly payments.

the insurance company has given us 3 accurate quotes before, so ill trust the number. they arent that expensive, the insurance is what makes them expensive. 25k car these days isint that much money if its relatively new.

i have a couple cars lined up to look at this weekend sometime, hopefully something works out.

Almost 2 years now. Lots of very VERY hard miles. Mostly track time. Logging 100-250 miles per track day. Very durable car.

i made up my mind, if there is a nice cobra and things work out ill be owning one shortly. if they dont, my gt is perfect so ill keep it.

I think many younger guys bought them and then realized they couldn't afford the payment plus gas and insurance for the car, that is why so many have been turned over so quickly. I have had mine since April 05 and I love the beast. But I have messed up my clutch knee real good so I might have to get rid of the Cobra. I would love to trade for a Lightning.

Just make sure that you can truly afford everything otherwise you will end up hating the car because of the financial burden that it is putting you in.

thanks for the input guys.

im very close to making a deal on one now. ive had awhile (for me decision making wise) to think it through. figured out payments, insurance, all my bills down to the penny, if i lost my job, if i made less money, ect.

taking it all into consideration, the car is affordable still.

next few days will tell.

Other than the coil mess I am going thru right now ( could have been avoided ) and the brakes needing help already, I don't have any complaints.
I have a smile from ear to ear every time I am behind the wheel. Me>

You must be on your parents inssurance becouse there is no way that car's insurance would be even close to affordable.. 300+ a month at least. I live in wa state and my wife works for safeco. so lets go with the low numbers.. $300 a month insurance, $400 a month payment.. <==- not realistic say you fill up twice a week, $320 in gas a month $1020 to drive that car.. id say more like $1200 i think thats crazy man and you should rethink this and invest that money in somthing, or save it or somthing.. this isnt a smart idea.. trust me i did somthing very similer when i was your age.
