BTW, They can do an oasis report to see if the update has been performed on the 99.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to have around a $16,000 budget, and I think I'm going to go with a 2001 cobra with around 40k miles or so on it.

Thanks a ton for the input!

One thing you'll have to worry about is a Rod Bearing going bad 96-02 engines.

04 Cobra owner here, if you have the money, and it's worthit TO YOU. Get the 03/04, you can find a used 03 out there for a VERY GOOD PRICE, as well as an 04.

I right now with the mods in my Sig am the happiest I have ever been as a Mustang Owner, my previous car was an 01 GT with EVERY BOLT ON IN THE WORLD. Had over 5k invested into my GT and still have it, After I drive the Cobra and go back to my GT, I always say to myself "Why did I not step up to the Terminator sooner?". As far as the motors going bad because of overheating is a rare case, and is only a case when it's heavily modifed and track and street driven very hard, even then it's rare. And if you are THAT WORRIED about it, get the cooling Mod for a few hundred bucks and that worry is gone.

Also, I know Mach 1's are limited, but if you can find a nice used one, those are very potent as well, can't go wrong with either.

Yeah go with the 03/04 Cobra if you have the $$$ to do it!!

Or you could go with an 03/04 Mach 1
and save a few $$$

Get a Mach 1. Similar motor, looks better, more special. My 2 cents.

I have about $14500 max to spend. I found myself a 2001 cobra, and the deal was pretty much finalized, but it fell through last second apparently.
My problem now is that I can't find any other 2001 cobras within that price range.
My only other affordable cobra choice would be 1999 cobra (unless somebody wants to sell me their 2003 cobra for under 14500 ).

What exactly are the major difference between the 1999? I know the interior and transmission are the major things, but other than that, what other difference are there?
Based on this page, http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html , the 1999 cobra is 0.4 seconds slower in the quarter mile. If both are 320hp and 317tq, why is the 99 so much slower?

I think I'm going to go for a 1999 for under $12000 if I can find one. I'm just trying to find a reason to justify spending the extra $2500 on a 2001 (thats granted I can find another one for $14500)

Thanks again guys for any help.

Can anybody help me out?
Other than the different transmission, seats, and bumper cover, are there any other major differences between the 1999 and 2001? Why is the 1999 0.4 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile?

I'm just trying to see if its worth the extra $2500-3500 to get a 2001 since I'm on a tight budget.

Thanks!

99 cobra bumper say's MUSTANG (due to anniversary reasons)

2001 says COBRA

there's no difference in 1/4mi times.

So for $3000 you are getting a strong transmission, nicer seats, and bumper that says cobra, and a car that is 2 years newer. Other than that, they are the same car?

So it's probably a better deal for somebody on a tight budget to go for the 1999 since there is no big reason to justify the $3000 extra?

Thanks!

Oh, and the 1999 blocks are actually stronger also...

By the way Im perfectly happy with my 96. The Mystic gets SOOOOO much attention. At car shows, grocery stores, car washes, red lights, everywhere. Always someone comenting on it. Some stang guys dont like the color, I love it. Try mysticcobra.net if interested, they have several for sale low miles in you price range.

It was rumored that they had leftover teksid blocks and only a few made it into the 99's

The block only matters if you add a blower................
NA its no big deal.

The main reason for the Aluminum block is better frt & rear weight distrubution. Less weight on the front of any car, handleing is much better.

Very close to 50/50. The IRS is heavy.

I see no need to buy a 99 at all.

FYI
Polished wheels are a option on the 01
