My tranny blew up last week so I started looking into T-56's. The only one I can find in my price range is a rebuilt one from a cobra. Of coure Ford had to put the 27 spline output shaft in them, so my question is, is there anyway I can find a 27 spline yoke that will fit my driveshaft? Also will this tranny fit in a 94 5.0 besides the 27 spline output shaft?

Here is a link of the tranny i'm looking at.

I believe D&D Performance and Kenny Brown(?) have swap kits for the T-56, since a special cross-member is requiered. Other than that it should fit no problem.

As for the 27 output shaft, if the tranny is a TKO, it will require a special clutch and u-joints to install.

F.Y.I., the link didn't work.

I dont believe you can use those as they are setup with a different speedo mechanism. I know ford makes a t-56 with a mechanical speedo setup for our and older cars. But assuming you work that out somehow, you will need to get a new yoke and shorten your existing DS or just get a new custom one made. You will need a trans crossmember also and a 5.0 to t-56 bell housing. If it doesnt come with a shifter you will need that too. Thats all the major stuff. THeres prolly bits and pieces I'm missing.

Nevermind, I guess those cars are 5 years old now and have taken a serious beating. For some reason they seem newer to me.

I would pick up a Lakewood or Mcleod SFI Bellhousing made for a 5.0/Tremec trans combo, and I bet you could use a trans mount and crossmember from a 03-04 along with a 03/04 driveshaft. Might have to change the pinion flange with the 03/04 d/s....I'm pretty sure theirs is different. In my old 04 Cobra I put a solid 8.8 from a 94 GT in it and had to use the pinion flange off the IRS in order to use my stock driveshaft. Or you could probably get a custom one made for $400-500. I'm not sure what you'd do about the speedo....maybe a Speed-Cal would work? Just an idea. If you go with a 03-04 T56 though upgrade the stock 10 spline input shaft to a 26 while you have the opportunity. The 10 spline is prone to breaking with spirited driving. You'd have to get a 26 spline clutch setup, but that's no big deal and they're generally the same price as 10 spline setups.
