Ran my scantool on a 93 2.3L and got code 224, coil 1.2.3 or 4 primary circuit failure. Anyone know if that is the coil pack or something else???

What is the car doing? Does it get spark to all 8 plugs consistantly, or randomly switch cyls its firing too?. When mine was throughing that code it ended up being the ignition module, but I ended up changing a coil pack first because that was what the code was for. If you think its only the coil pack check the coil pack for cracks and burn marks were it may posibly be firing through the coil to the mount instead of to the plug wire. If it is the origanal ignitoin module It may be a good idear to change it anyways its about the age were it will start to fail. One other the tach may jump around and read about half what it should when the module starts to fail. Good luck with your car

When I looked at the coil packs, they didn't look too bad. The car doesn't seem to be misfiring at all. Maybe i'll try the ignition module first and see what happens. Thanks again

I went thru this deal about 3 months ago. I ended up changing the ICM and also both coil packs. I had the parts checked at local parts stores and they said they were good, but once I replaced them, everything good now. I know the codes were 223 and 224 for mine. You may not need all the parts, but depending on the age and mileage, it wouldn't hurt. The ICM and 2 coil packs were about 305 from O'Reilly Auto Parts. There are cheaper options out there, but I got Borg/Warner lifetime warranty. I know mine runs like a top after the replacements. There are several posts on this, just do a search on ICM or coil packs. Good Luck!!
