codes wont show??? am I doing this right?

Ok so the problem with my car is that it wont start when hot. I messed around with some things then decided to pull the codes to see if there was anything wrong. Ive never had to do this before so I searched and found jrichkers post explaining how to do it. I made a jumper wire and plugged it into the single wire test connector then into the number 2 plug on the diagnostivcs port. Next I took a testlight and clipped it to the positive battery post and hooked it to the number 3 pin on the diagnostics port. I turned the key to on and nothing happened. I chekced all plugins to be sure they were connected and tried again. Not a single flash. SO I start the car to see if the koer codes will display and theres nothing there also. I am sure there is good connections at all ports. Was I hooking everything up right?

Just use the jumper wire only, no test light, jump the single wire test to number 2 spot and get in the car and turn the key to the on position and just count the check engine flashes. Thats how I had to do it.

His 87 is probably a factory SD car, hence his needing the test light.

The best I could have offered is what you have already seen. You might want to use your meter to check the continuity of the wires to the self test connector.

Good luck.

Check out the drawing...
