I had a broken front spring, put in a used one with a coil clamp, but it was about 1-1.5" past the groove for the bottom.

Is there any "easy" way to turn the spring while it is in? That is without removing it or re-using the clamp. The clamp was a major P.I.T.A. and had to disassemble it to get it off the spring.

If I don't get any replies I am going to try to hit it with a metal rod and a hammer. But when it pops the rod will move with the spring, so hopefully I can find a way to prop it in there without holding it.

In the meantime, my car is sitting a little high on one side....... dammit.

There are 2 holes in the lower A Arms and the end of the Spring pigtail should be between the 2 holes. I imagine if you put a compressor on it enough to relieve some tension that you should be able to rotate it.

I would not recommend trying to rotate the spring if it has any tension on it. I tried that once and didnt think that the spring had much tension on it but it did. I tried to rotate it with my hands and it poped out and sprained my thumb. I would take the time to compress it and then rotate it. Its worth it to be safer.

yeah, I know it has tension on it, I was just hoping there was some way to turn it without clamping it. Using hand tools to crank that bastard down just plain sucks.

Have a crow bar and a big hammer? Line the bar up on the bottom of the spring and give it a good hit. I may/may not work. I put mine in without a spring compressor, just used a jack while the car was on jackstands. Good luck and be safe.

lol, you ***in nut, you sound like me.

I should have taken out the A-Arm bolts and let that side down while the other side was attached. Had two problems with that.
1. Someone stole my jack, so I was stuck with the scissor jack.
2. Bent a forged box end wrench trying to loosen up the bolts.

I put some thought into this approach and I am wondering if the rod/crowbar/whatever I end up using will get stuck in between the next coil up and the A-arm. Well, i guess no way to find out unless I try it.

I am going to wait until I get a new compressor until I put the lowering springs in. Then I know I'll get those damn A-Arm bolts off.
