i keep burning up coil wires. i replace the coil cleaned all the connections. still the problem. any ideas.

How are the other wires doing? Is the coil wire well connected at each end? Any burn marks on the coil or cap? Is the coil wire wrapped around anything? What plug gaps do you run and with what kind of plugs (copper, plats, etc)?

Everything Is As Ford Recomends As Far As Plug Gap Goes, There Doesnt Appear To Be Anything Wrong With Any Other Wire. If I Put A New Coil Wire On It Runs Good For A While And Then It Either Shuts Down While I Am Driving Or It Wont Start Up The Next Time I Try To Fire It.

Make sure you hear a click then you attach it to the coil. You may have to press really hard to get it to snap on.

I had this problem when I put my old FMS wires in.

I Have Put A New Coil On It And It Still Does The Same Thing And I Hear A Click When I Press The Coil Wires On. I Am About To Spend The Big Money And Put A Whole New Ignition System In.

You are burning the coil wire that goes to the dizzy, or the wires that power the coil????

If you are burning the coil to dizzy wire, you likely have a loose connection at the ground or positive either at the coil, or wherever it feeds from. Increased resistance equals increased current draw which can over heat the wire.

Are you sure it's not resting on anything that would burn it? And you are 100% sure that you are making a really good contact at the coil and the dizzy? If you don't hear the snap, you need to adjust the coil wire connector so it's tighter.

just out of curiosity i took one of the old coil wires and tried it out and to my surprise the car fired right up. i then tried all the previous ones and the car fired right up with all of them. (its the wire from coil to dizzy). now this is strange as some of the wires
have just left me stranded (just died as i was going down the road, i ran with feet to autozone and came back with new set of wires and used new coil wire and fired right back up) or would not let the car fire up the next time i went to turn it on. now i have noticed at high rpm 4500+ the car quits pulling and it kinda acts like its bouncing of the rev limiter.

is there anything in the distributor that would cause the car not to fire. the other night the car just died on me twice. both times i was driving the car down the road and it just quit. it had to sit for 20 minutes roughly before it would fire back up.

The PIP is in the dizzy. The TFI is on the fenderwell but is used to modulate spark.

That sounds like TFI (if this were a fox). The TFI would heat up and quit, and then once cool, spark would return.

the last time the car shut down i popped the hood for a while and messed around trying to find somthing, anything. after a while i heard a noise almost like a fuel pump but it came from somewhere in the engine bay, as soon as i heard the noise i tried to start the car and it started right up like it never had a problem.

If one has the key on and turns the dizzy, it can make a ratcheting noise (injectors firing as you rotate the dizzy, which closes the windows on the PIP). Could that have been it (was the key turned on when you looked under the hood)?

PIP = Profile Ignition Pick-up. It is the stator in the dizzy which controls base timing (for spark and injectors).

The TFI (Thick Film Ignition) is on the pass fenderwell on an SN and is used to modulate spark timing.
