Cold Air intake for 2004 GT Steeda? MAC?

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a cold air intake for a 2004 GT. I have been looking at the Steeda GT High-Flow Air Kit, and at the MAC GT 85mm Mass Air System. I have heard that an after market intake can cause prolems with your engine warning lights and such. Steeda claims that their kit won't cause the warning lights to turn on. Anyone have any suggestions betweeb these two kits, or any suggestions for another brand? The car is a show car more than a race car, and I'm looking for an intake to more or less dress up the engine. Thanks.

Which ever one is mo' pretty to you. I'd really suggest staying away from the MAC w/ MAF system. Their MAF, just like the C&L MAF, simply reuses the stock electronics in a slightly better flowing tube. The best result you can get from this is a bit more power, and you would get this at the expense of a potential leaning issue (this is HOW there MAF makes power) that could be dangerous, especially if mixed with other mods and/or cheap gas.
Brand for Brand, Steeda will beat MAC allday, everyday.

Densecharger best CAI IMO and I believe u can get that with an MAF also.

i would also recomend you stay away from the maf people seem to complain about them, that is prob. what you hear about the check engine.

a regular air kit will not cause the check light to come on, ive had cai on my car for 3 almost 3 years.

first i had mac regular fender cai, now i have the steeda. i really could not tell a power difference just by driving, but there may be a small one.

as far as quality the steeda crushes the mac. steeda wins in looks too.

I'll take my MAC Straight Shot over the Steeda CAI anyday of the week.

No need for a bigger maf. Do a search and you can find hundreds of threads on CAI's.

you only need a bigger MAF if youre pushing close to or over 400hp. other than the stock application is sufficient.

If you want the Bling, go with a BBK CAI.

How about none? CAI's are worthless......when will people learn?

Put the money towards gears or longtubes.

I agree with Gino, I just have a K&N drop in and I think that is fine. But I agree, stay away from running a bigger maf sensor.

100% agree. if you are going to buy one jlt true cold air is supposed to have the best gains out of them all and it comes painted to match the car which to me looks better than chrome. definately don't buy a maf. the way the make power is by leaning the car out. I wouldn't worry about one until you peg out the 5 volt reference.

unless you are buying it for looks, save your money and maybe put a drop-in K&N filter in there

We sell and install Steeda & Mac ,bbk .New mac straight shot is by far the best now! With or without mass air. Yes steeda and mac ss are the only ones that gain Good hp on dyno test. And the mac ss blow's away steeda with it's internal velocity stack,fit and finish.Have 85mm SS mass air system afr now at 13.1. Mac moves pick up location for calibration on stock with larger mass air works great so far.Good price also. Was Steeda supporter till Straight Shot.

I'm getting the jist that if i was to get a CAI i should go with the Steeda, which is what I was leaning to anyway. But my next question is, besides not having any real power gaining benifits, is an after market CAI detremental to your engine? Like suppose you didn't care about the HP and were mostly concerend with making your engine more flashy. Is a CAI a good idea or no?

it does change the exhaust note. it made the stock catback deeper. just enough nothing out of this world.

the steeda and the mac ss seem to be exactly the same if you are not useing the maf with the mac. how is it making more hp? that internal veloity stack? what the heck is that anyway?

i asked this question about 2 months ago while researching, but no one had an answer so i just went with the steeda.

I have the MAC. I don't really know if it did anything but it sure does look good in there.
