The Magnum gets way better gas mileage. I get 23-24 mpg highway and about 17-18 city. No way can I get that out of my Mustang, and this is due, mostly, to the MDS system, which I must say is one of the most innovative things done with an engine

The system that creates the most god awful drone with a quality exhaust and stops the aftermarket from embracing the car. Also, the damn thing is almost all german. When you wait for the warranty parts, and you will, it is because they are from Germany.

I stopped by my Dodge dealer yesterday to gawk at the new Charger and I couldn't get past the 36K sticker for the R/T. IMO, it looked like a parts bin car with a 300C rear with a Dakota front grill. To add salt into the wound, no manual gear box offered. Ford did it RIGHT with the '05 Mustang.

I agree. Bottom line on the Charger is it has no visual. I would rather choose the Magnum or the 300C.THey could have done something real special with the Charger, but lost it.

So...for some reason you think only the gears are causing the magnum to be slower than the mustang... not weight. Right, so I guess close to 800 pounds differnce in wait has no substantial bearing on performance? I mean of course the gears are effecting it too but come on 800 pounds is a lot of weight to overcome.

I'm not saying that has no bearing on it, but it's not the only thing. And that's all that anyone keeps mentioning, is weight. Between the horsepower difference, and tranny gearing, the LX R/T cars would be very close to the Mustang if the differential gears were the same. The Mustang driven well would still beat the LX cars, but only by a few tenths, not second(s).

If the aftermarket is not embracing the car, then why are there aftermarket exhaust parts??? The gears are what the aftermarket needs to catch up with. And yes, it does have a drone when it switches down to 4 cylinders if you have aftermarket exhaust, but anyone that mods the engine of one of these cars probably won't be keeping the RPMs low enough to even have MDS kick in. You have to be going over 45 and I believe the rpms need to be around 1100 or less. Not to mention, a simple programmer could disable MDS, and some people already have found ways to disable it. But it is great for cruising. Even without MDS on (mine hardly ever goes on), I still get the gas mileage stated..

Why do these stupid Dodge topics keep popping up? Don't people know how to use the search function to see that this horse (or Charger discussion) has been beaten to death?

And before anybody tries to flame me for being a "Ford only" guy, I own a 68 Charger R/T, a Dodge truck, a 66 Mustang, an 05 Mustang, and an 05 Chevy Tahoe

Dont be suprised if a 2 door Charger pops up in a year or so. There is already more than one prototype running around and a 2 door 300 C convertible (same platform) is already in the making.
The Dodge product Im most curious about is the Caliber. Its the replacement for the Neon, I work at the plant that will make thme and the success of this car will directly effect my future. We will also be building two different Jeep cars, one we know will be the Jeep Compass.
Heres a link to the Caliber if anyones intrested.

No, this is ugly. Yuck. This goes right on my page of Ugly Cars with the Scion xB and the Honda Element.

The point is everything but the Cummins trucks are selling like moldy fruit. The Dodge lots down here are filled with crap they cant sell. Our Ford dealership is almost empty. The Cummins are only doing well because Ford screwed up the 6.0Ls. The trucks are what save Dodge (and thats not saying much). Yeah they got some power but damn...

And they say the charger is "modern muscle" not "American muscle" because Dodge is run by foreigners. Its a conspiracy. The day of the Vette and Mustang. Last true American muscles cars. (But hell, I'd take a Viper any day). GTO don't count. Sorry but its a Grand Am.

Dont know about where you are, but Chrysler is the only American car company making a profit these days. GM had a great couple of months due to employee pricing, but both GM and Ford have lost major market share to DC. The two best selling American cars right now are the 300 C and the 05 Mustang.
Personally, I think DC has some very good looking poweful vehicles out right now. There is nothing from GM that excites me except the Corvette. The GTO is ok and the new Pontiac Soltise (sp?) will sell but everything else is so boring. Outside of the Mustang or a Lightning if they ever build it, I wouldnt want anything Ford has out right now. If you want a powerful, exciting American sedan DC seems to be the only game in town.

Yea, car and driver just did a review of the mustang vs. the charger. And while the charger had more horse, the Mustang pulled out on top. Probably the thrust/weight ratio.

As for the charger, I'm a big fan...but....why is the 06 still 4 doors. Can't they come up with a coupe version. The fans have been screaming for it since the car came out. As for the body, opinions vary...I think its ok...no Mustang though..but good competition and way better than the crappy body on the GTO.

Just my opinion.

I work for the rail road at a Chyrsler assembly plant. There are a few Charger 2 door 'concept' cars running around. Chrysler has a 2 door 300 C convetible in the works, so being built on the same platform and at the same plant, itd probably easy to make both.
