I got oil on my block and I can't tell where its coming from, mainly because of the fact that its just about everywhere. I just replaced the valve cover gasket a month ago, and I was wondering if there are any other places where a leak could develop on an 88 LX Automatic 2.3, like, common places?

I have been working on 2 different 2.3 motors over the past few weeks and mine all had leaks at the valve cover, oil sending unit, head gasket seepage in the rear and side with oil sending unit, rear main seal, front oil pan seal. I'm no expert but with my limited experience with the 2.3 motor this is what I have seen. Oh yea I also noticed sepage around the PVC breather coming out of the block under the intake.

my main oil leaks where from the cork valve cover and head gasket, but in my opinion the engines leak everywhere

My '93 has no leaks at all..
the '88 I picked up has some leakage..looks like a valve cover gasket...but from the posts above, it dosn't look like it'll be the only one.

If u just changed the valve cover gasket - that could be your prob too. The after market vc gaskets (rubber ones) will crack around the grommets if they are overtightened. Ford has a good replacement that won't crack and u can't overtighten it inadvertently. Part # F57Z6584-A. it's the best one u can buy.

I bought Fel-Pro Cork for my valve cover, heard it was the best.
