HI everyone, I will be returning to the states after a 2 year tour in Germany on Wednesday. I will be looking to buy an 01 cobra and want to know what to look for when buying one. What did you wish you noticed when you bought yours? Are there any problems that are very common with these cars? Thanks

The main few I've heard are are sporadic. A few engines tend to have very light pinging under the right circumstance and (unfortunately in my case) I know that is really hot weather under heavier acceleration. Mine does tend to ping slightly when the thermometer reaches up over 90 degrees...even on premium, although its not that bad though.
Other problems have been synchro problems and wheelhop...both of which I haven't had to deal with. Any others escape me right now. They are very pleasant Mustangs to own and I have no regrets as they are capable as well as comfortable.

check the first gear synchos this is one of the recalls if it grinds going in ford will warranty it if you still have one. also have a mechanic check the rear hub bearings for slop. pinging when it is hot will go away with some octane boost. oil consumption is pretty normal on these motors until break in normally around 20,000 to 30,000 miles car will smoke on the decel side mostly. thats all i got off the top of my head

Hey thanks for the replies everyone. What does it mean if I have rear bearing slop? I'm new to the IRS world, my last car was an '86 Trans Am. Does it mean that it was beat on if there is slop?

Also make sure the rear pinion seal don't leak. That along with a messed up power window switch was the only problems I had with my '01.

At about my 10,000 mile mark i lost my tranny. Dealer fixed and said it was part of a recall. I think i just tore it up.

I've got 28,000 on mine and it is a solid car. I do have the sporadic puff of blue smoke on start-ups, which is evidently, not uncommon.

Everything else is great!

yeah, sounds like the same thing 350s have been doing for years, valve seals, no biggie. It is only when the motor cools down that they leak.
