I am looking to swap a DOHC V8 into my 95 stang. I kow its alot of work but thats what I am doing. I am still learning about the engines and need to know which ones have the same aluminum block (hopefully teksid) The Lightning is a 5.4 but does it use the same block? I can get a complete cobra motor for $900 but the block and valve covers are cracked, everything else is good.

Any help would be awesome. I would plan on swapping in a forged rotating assembly and probably get some new cams. I want a motor that can handle well over 600hp.

Thanks
C.q.

The 5.4 lightnings use an iron block. Teksid blocks can be found in mark VIIIs, 96-99 cobras and a decent amount of 01s even have them.
$900 for used cobra engine with a broke block and valve covers is not a good deal. You will spend probably around another $500 replacing those parts with used components.

Even at an extra $500 I have not seen deals any better. An 01 cobra motor went on e-bay for $3500. Another Cobra motor with a cracked block went for almost $1400 plus shipping. I am looking at $900 shipped, I can get new valve covers for $150 and a block for about $300. I could not even buy a Mark VIII motor and forged crank for that kind of money.....

If you lived near orlando florida I would sell you my extra 99 cobra motor for $800. The thing is complete from intake manifold to oil pan, 70k miles, has a rod knock when warmed up but still runs very strong. All it needs is a rebuild with forged internals. I thought about putting it in my 88 but decided not to.

What even makes you think its going to cost $8000 ??
Maybe if I paid someone to do all the work and bought a brand new engine direct from ford.
So you are talking a min. $1000 for a cobra engine that you still have to get pulled apart, machined, forged, installed with the new computer, wiring.. etc. Then you want to get it to 600hp and you won't be doing that NA, so you are looking at a supercharger or turbo setup. $8k to get from where you are now to 600hp and a swap.

It's not even going to be 8K at 600hp. No I certainly don't plan on doing that N/A. There will be forced induction later down the road. I can pull the engine apart myself, $1000 for forged internals and a bit more for ARP hardware. Machine work is fairly cheap. That engine will be in my car running better and built stronger than a stock cobra for around $3K maybe a little less maybe a bit more.
