Competition at the stop lights and on the highways

So what do you consider competition for a Mustang these days? A lot of what I’ve read says that nothing is, because the Camaro is gone, the Charger is 4 door, the GTO is not selling well, etc.

Do you consider our competition to be Camaro’s, TA’s or Firechickens from a few years ago? What is wrong with making the range of our competition a little wider, like in the $25-35K range and add in some rice burners and deutch-mobiles.

How does the mustang hold up against the 350Z, the Eclipse Spyder, the M3 or Z4, other 5-7 series 2 and 4 doors, or even those Mopars running the 425HP Hemi V8’s like the Magnum or the 300, or even the 2/4 door Mercedes. There are a lot of cars to match up the Mustang with, what do you guys think (outside the box) about some of those other cars?

confusing question.

Camaro gone, but TA is still competition, regardless of the fact that the seiced production at the same time.

If its purpley performance terms your looking at then ANYTHING the world over potentially can be competition, it all depnds how fast or slow it is. Not how much it cost or how many years old it is.

A stop light race is about beating the other car not who's cost the most.

Well, more along the lines of "When I pull up to a light and I see a 'C class' I get nervous, avoid direct eye contact with them, and wish I was driving a Corvette." or "Wow my uncles Boxster just gave it to me up the tailpipe!"

I know that when I see a 350Z, I get the feeling I'm not going to beat it.

unless you bought a V6 you should be ok against any of them, but if you're really worried maybe you should have either bought a faster car to begin with, or a small diesel hatch back and just not worried about it at all.

There will always be a quicker car, and unless you really know what car is what it will be difficult to tell how fast the car next to you is likly to be. A de-badged Merc AMG 65 will destroy almost anything on the road but it could look just like 3.2 V6.

When did "everyone" get so afraid of losing a race... It's all in fun and unless you are putting money on it, who cares... Enjoy your ride, like said, there is always something faster somewhere. You can always work to make it faster...

It's like all the freaking morons that rev their engine at me when I am out driving my wife's fairly speedy grocery getter. See me in my car and we would have another story...

Here's to my upcoming Shelby as well... Going to be fun to drive AND look at...

It's not about a fear of loosing, it's about lining up side by side with something that sends a chill down your spine cause you know that at any moment, it could just reach over and destroy you.

I get what your asking since no one has really answered your question. You want to know what you can take when your at a light so you dont waste gas. We should be able to take the G35, 350z and the spyder along with staying neck to neck with the 330ci or whatever the faster one is, but then again it all depends how you and the other driver drive. Ive beaten my friends GTI with twin turbo and 2 of my friends 5.0's. The 5.0's was a joke but the GTI was pretty close even though i had about 1 1/2 car lengths on him. Dont worry man, if you lose just remember your car looks better ;)

Confusing answer! :) How is the T/A still competition yet the Camaro is not? Same chassis, same engine, same tranny. My 2002 Z28 is still plenty fast :)

I'd still like a new Mustang, but have to delay the purchase for a while due to external issues...

no i have a v8, i was just told that. guess ill have to look up the numbers
BMW 2005 330Ci Acceleration 0-60 mph 5.9 sec

guess i was really wrong, sorry about that... so we should take that easily too

BMW 2005 M3 Acceleration 0-60 mph 4.8 sec
a couple of bolt ons and were taking a $47,000 car. not bad at all :nice:

Just race some of them for crying out loud! Stop with the sissy mag racing and get out there. (Or just enjoy your car and ignore everyone.)

There is no substitute for experience. Spend some time at a track. Learn your car FIRST. Don't be stupid (dangerous) and have fun.

I had a sleeper '69 Plymoth that would have destroyed most '05 stangs from a dig. My buddy still has a '70 Plymoth station wagon that is a killer.

Ya just never know....
