Complete cam swap A-Z?

its pretty straight forward. make sure you label all the bolts that come off and put them through cardboard or tape them together with duct tape. you are going to have to get a big screw to take out the cam and be suuuuuper careful when taking out/putting back in so you dont go messing up any of the bearings. im sure someone has a decent writeup around here tho

Your best tool is to purchase a Haynes or Chiltons manual. It will have an engine rebuilding section that will outline, in detail and sequence, the entire process. For additional information there are a slew of websites dedicated to the 5.0L.

go to mustangexhaust.com click on teh bolt ons and general tech forum. and on the top there is a sticky that gives a good step by step cam swap, from a person that knows what the hell he is talking about.

I would DEFINITELY change the springs for any kind of cam swap. It's my opinion that the stock springs aren't enough for the stock cam, let alone an aftermarket one. 140# on the seat and 350-375# open would work well. Pushrods will need to be changed too.

Get a GOOD timing set too. It's a 80 dollar part that can completely destroy your motor if you cheap out. Ed Curtis sells the best timing set I've ever installed in my entire life. It was so tight that it seems impossible for the chain to jump. You'll be cussing when you're putting it on, but it is top quality. He also will have the springs that you need.

I gotta agree with Joe and would like to add my .02 also ......

I was blown away by the Roll Master timing chain/gears. All my gearhead buds came by while I was putting the combo together and they made as much of a fuss over the timing set as the AFR's. It really is a nice setup and the cost is just a small bit more than the average timing set. Ed told me that a lot of his Pure Street racer customers use the Roll Master set.
