Considering a mustang, have questions

I was waiting on a comment about the sunroof. It was done right after it was bought by the first owner. It is a very clean job, no problems leaking. That is actually a plus for me, I like having one. So, think with proper maintenance it will handle 200k miles? Thanks.

I've got 195,000 on my 'stang...

I haven't to replace anything but a few "wear parts"; alternator, clutch, an idler pulley, stuff like that (and the stupid plastic intake)

there is no reason a well taken car of Mustang won't go at least 200K miles

Thats a nice looking Cobra, other than the sunroof. But to each his own.

I have experience with the 4.6 in my F150, its a 1997 and has 175,000 miles on it. The Mustang and F150 have relatively the same engine. I've had to replace the alternator 2x, the starter once and battery cables a couple of times. Other than that its ran great. I've heard of many F150's going well over 300 - 500K. Its all on how you take care of it. Get the Cobra, take care of it and have some fun.

Well for gas milage I think I can get aroound 20,reliabilty wise its been good to me,had it 5 years and the only work I had to do was an alternator($250),a clutch in 06 and recently a tranny rebuild but thats from another issue, and the factory cd player quit, bought a nice Kenword that has hookups for my iPod and a usb connection for a flash drive that i got the cable running into the glove box with 4gb drive in there for more music. Now as for insurance you definatly need to check on it,Im 32 now and only pay $110 a month for full coverage in TX,but back when I bought a TA in 94(A 92 model and only 18) I payed $290 a month for insurance and $260 a month for the car...ouch.And yes my record was clean. In tx insurance dosent start to go down for males until they reach 25,women 21,why I dunno. For liabilty should be around 60ish-70ish a month...But these are prices in my area of TX.Dont forget that insurance prices are not only based on the car, they are based on your area(Hurricane,Tornado,Flood prone),your crime rate in your neighborhood, and your credit rating. If your have a low rating they consider you a high risk...lol,BS and will jack up the rates on you, believe me I know, had a divorce a few years back, she screwed my credit and my premiums went way up.Also color can contribute to insurance cost, for some reason any car that is painted red is more expensive in TX,again I have no idea why.Now this doesnt really pertain to the stangs, but they are also Fords,my dad had a 02 Ford ranger with 240k miles on it no problem, and my mom had a 99 Taurus with 225k miles and neither had any work done except for the norm...brakes,belts...ect.And my wife has a 1970 F100 that shes just starting to rebuild(grandfather gave it to her...1owner truck) and it has 380k miles on it without any major work and yes it still runs without any probs.

Also, if you are 18 years old, expect to pay roughly $300 a month at the very least for insurance. Massachusetts has very high insurance rates, so thats what Im basing this on. More than likely your insurance will cost more than your monthly payment.

Wow. I've been paying 900 a year for insurance in MA since I was 22. My rates just dropped because the law changed this year too. Did yours? They should have... if not you need to shop around some. How many tickets/accidents have you had?

I get good mpg on the highway (about 23mpg) but bad mpg around town (~15mpg). It is an auto though which doesnt help.

I can afford the gas, it is worth it to me to have the nice car. I checked on insurance this morning. Liability would remain the same ($318 for 6 months) and full coverage would be ~$900 for 6 months. Right now it looks like the deal may go through, I really hope it does at this point. The next few weeks are gonna be very long while I wait on the deal to go through and get a chance to pick it up. Thanks for all the input, and any further info is greatly appreciated.

Hello, i am a senior in high school and about to start college. I am thinking about purchasing a mustang. I am looking at a 97-2000 4.6 V8. I am wondering what gas mileage one of these would get, and also how are they holding up for all of you. Please post what you have, mods, mpg, and the miles on the car with any problems (not related to user abuse) that you have. Thanks alot, i appreciate it.
Look towards getting a 99-04 and if you can find one, get the Bullitt model. You can easily get 25+ mpg on the highway. In 2004, the mustang gt was rated the most reliable American car.
