Contour Fans - What you need to know

Bring a big pry bar. I was able to get mine out with out unbolting any mounts(v6 car) bend some ac lines out of the way and then use the bar to roll the engine rearward and wiggle the fan out (a second person would be good but it's doable by yourself)

the aftermarket contour fans don't turn as fast as the oem ones do, at least not in my experience

No, but they still flow quite well. I'm running an aftermarket Contour fan and it's having no problem keeping my car cool while running it at around 75% max speed.

I previously ran an SN95 OEM fan but the biggest difference is the contour fan with the LMR mounting brackets covers 100% of the radiator surface area. It's just making more efficient use of the airflow even if the CFM is slightly less.

If i ever find a good deal on an OEM contour fan i'll get it and swap the motors over to my aftermarket fan shroud (i like the nice new plastic) but it's looking like that's not something I'm really going to need. I'll get more of an idea later this summer when we finally get into the 90's and I'm running A/C

That’s why when I saw a NOS oem set pop up about 4-5 years ago I bought it . I will not let it go . I haven’t see the another set since

Very cool (pardon the pun) on the swap of blades, motors etc. We have been doing it for some time now. Being in Ontario in the rust belt (Ottawa) sometimes real difficult to swap stuff around. I have learnt quite abit from this post. Thanks John!

One more testing video I have shared on corral, figured I would share it here in this thread. Its flow testing Focus fan motors and blades swapped/bolted into a Contour housing. Three bolts for each fan and the plugs are the same.

Great info, thank you. Question I have for you is can you take the blades and motors off that focus and put them in the contour shroud?
This way you have better blades and they shouldn't rub,or need grinding to fit.
Maybe just swap the one focus fan and motor with the most blades????

Yup. Did that already. I took the motors and fan blades as a unit from the Focus (3 bolts) and removed the motors and blades from the Contour (same 3 bolts) and simply bolted the Focus motors and blades in place of the Contour ones. The video you quoted shows the finished product - Contour shroud with Focus motors and blades.

The video in post 25 was the Focus blades installed on a Contour motor - that required the grinding to fit/function. Swapping the motor and blades as a unit was a direct drop in. Only the plug moved a bit but did not cause any issue.

So cool, I'm going to pic a part as soon as the heat lets up here, under 100 would be ideal.
Thank you again for all your knowledge , sharing this info.

Actually the unit in the video I left the pick-a-part yard like it is. I found a 01 Cougar, pulled that fan. Then found two Focuses and swapped the 11 blade fan/motor combos for each of the Contour motors. I ended up basically paying for a dual electric fan only instead of a dual fan and two separate single fan/motor assemblies and then do the swap at home.

Yes I was going to pull a contour fan, then pull the motors and blades from a focus and swap at the pic a part
Should cost about $60 usd.
