I just ordered a vinyl top for my 97 gt and I was wondering how difficult the install would be if I did it myself. From the looks of it, it doesn't look too difficult but I was just wondering if anyone had any diagrams or anything to look at before I jumped into it.

have it professionally installed. If you dont know what you're doing, you wont be able to get it on right and it will a) look horrible and b) wont last long.

a friend of mine installed new top on his Miata. He saved money, yes.
But did it look good? no
It wrinckled, would not stretch right, and made i so tight that it as 10X harder to close.
So he ended up paying uphostory guy, and same top came out perfect

I did my own. Took about 6 hours to put it on... Not to hard pretty much easy. But 2 hours to line up the back around the window to try and get all the wrinkles out of it. Looks good. I have a small wrinkle yet in the back but for what I saved I can handle it.

Yeah I was going to take my old one off and put it back on to sort of practice before I actually put the new one on. I got kind of carried away and took out my back seats and panels and light bar just for kicks. Where can I get some good vinyl paint/dye to change all the panelling to black instead of grey?

Easyer to install whole top and frame. Try looking for 03-04 cobra top and frame.
