converting to disc brakes

whats the easiest/cheapest/most efficient way to convert a 67 front drum to discs???

Easiest - SSBC, then Baer, then wilwood
Cheapest - Grenada
Most efficient? - in what way use of time or money?

You can also find another 67 with discs and pilfer them
Or any 68-73 mustang I beleive...just make sure you take the spindle and the tie rods too.

Three different questions!

Baer is the most expensive, but certainly one of the "coolest" mods.

Wilwood is cheaper than Baer, but really are meant for the track (I know - I have them on my 67 and they need care and feeding).

SSBC is, in my opinion, probably the best choice for someone who wants a kit (unless you have bucks to throw at it, in which case, Baer would be a choice). The nice thing about SSBC is their soup-to-nuts type of kits (you may have a couple small items that you have to get, but nothing significant). They also have a long track record - back when I was first thinking about converting my 67 to discs they were around (that was in the early 80's and I still have their brochure!). They have several different flavors, from stock GT replacements to big brake kits that can hold up on the track.

what about donor cars, what stuff can i get off of what cars for a nice setup???

If your looking at just a daily driver then you can't get much cheeper than Granada. I did mine last summer for $400 and couldn't be happier!

Donor cars: 70's Mavericks & Comets, late 70's Granadas, Monarchs, Lincoln Versailles, 71-73 Stangs. These are the best bets to find them , but better hurry, with the price of steel going up, the J'yards are crushing them.

I am also converting my 67 to disc. I have found a 76 comet/maverick (I forgot which). It is in a junk yard and i plan on taking the whole front end out. Will the stering box work on my stang? I was not sure if the power stering could be taken from the donor vehicle as well

On the ss kit are most people going with manual or power ? If the car is manual is it best to stay with that ?

The price on the Baer is a mis-conception. When comparing apples to apples, the Baer is right on line with SS. At least it is for the larger diameter rotor kits (13"). That includes the fancy rotors. Both my front and rear kits totalled $2400, shipped. That included a couple hundred extra for the polished calipers. So do your homework before you decide. I actually got frustrated with SS because every time I talked to a sales guy I got a different opinion.

My car is manual from the factory. It will remain manual unless I feel it needs to change. I'm not forseeing that at the moment.

on the baer brakes, what kit did you go with for the front / How hard was the switch over ?

Sorry man... the brakes are on a UPS truck at the moment....

I should know in the next week or two...

I am contemplating buying a granada for the motor, if it works out I could piece out the brakes.

I did the granada swap on my 67 for under $150.

all of this depends on if the motor in the granada is salvagable, also on what rear end is in the car.
