Hey Guys,

What kind and size of wrench is used to take the coolant drain plug out of the engine block on a 5.0 on a 94 GT. It almost looks like a TorX. I''ve tried a T40 and a T45 and neither fit.

I've also used a 6mm Allenn Wrench. The allen wrench almost fits, but it feels loose. I don't want to start hammering away with it and strip out the plug. (plus Ford uses that Locktite stuff, so I'm definitely gonna have to use some force).

Knowing Ford, it's probably some wierd @$$% size like T41.568321867343

Thanx in advance for your help.

That would be a new one on me. Never heard of a block drain plug?
Why are you trying to remove it? I think you are talking about a freeze plug,if this is the case.....Do not remove it!

There are two coolant drains on the passenger side. They are not the freeze plugs -- but I don't know the size of them either.

you need a 1/4 inch allen keys. try to find the ones that you can use on a rachet so it would be easier to use.

sometimes those things are in there good depending on how old the car is or if its never been removed before. alot of times at work i'd have to heat them up first and then spray some WD-40 on them. but most of the time on a Ford there easy as pie. make sure to use some sort of thread sealer when you put them back in even though its a pipe thread.

I tried to get mine off with a regular cheap-o allen wrench but I just broke it even after letting the thing soak with penetrating oil for a long time. I ended up borrowing a socket from my neighbor that I put on my long ratchet and got it loose real easily.
