I have a leak that is coming from the firewall and when I drive my coolant is drained and smoke starts pouring out from my engine bay. It is coming(I believe) from the passenger side firewall. My theory is that it is the return line from the heater core and that it has ruptured. Does anyone know what could be wrong an how to fix it? I've already had a mechanic and a mustang performance shop look at it and no one can tell me what is wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1) dont go back to that mechanic and that shop

simply pressure test the system and look for the leak, so you dont have to be guessing.

2) repair coolant leak

Mine did the same thing there is a little weep hole that lets the coolant out when the heater core goes for a poop. It is about 5 inches under the two lines that go to the H/C on the passenger side. It will leak onto your headder and that's why your engine bay smokes. And yea don't go back to that shop if he can't find a coolant leak infact don't even take your wheelbarrel to that shop. Just bypass the H/C for now untill you can get it fixed.

Thanks alotI puts my mind at ease to know its not a bigger problem. One last question, and it may seem stupid but how do you go about bypassing the heater core? Can I just connect the two lines for now?...sorry for the questions it's just that I've never done much work on cooling systems.

Yea just take the lines off the firewall and connect them together using a 90deg elbow or somthing like that will work and clamp the lines to it. Is that where yours is leaking from is the weep hole above where the header joins to the Hpipe.

Thank you so much.I'm pretty sure it's the weephole...it looks like a rubber seal with a hole in the middle of it and it had coolant dripping out the other day.I'm gonna fix it in the morning. It'll be nice to drive around without having to wipe a nasty film off of my windows because of the smoke. Thanks again!

Thanks so much guys.Really helped me out. I bought a 90 angle pipe and connected them earlier then refilled my coolant and decided to blast down the road at about 100 to get my temp up and coolant flowing.NO SMOKE! I was so happy. Just thought I'd share how it went. Thanks again.
