i dont think i even opened the radiator cap when i did mine. Hardly any coolant came out. I finally found the temperature gage send unit for my 1995 Mustang 3.8 v-6. It is not where ANYONE has told me or written in the blog. It is down some in front of the engine almost to the power steering pump mount. Looks like the mount is just enough in the way as not to permit a deepwell socket. Will need long nose pliers to pull the connector off.As long as your temp gauge isnt acting up, dont worry about the actual ECT Sending Unit (This plugs into the water outlet on the front of your lower intake manfold). What i replaced was the Coolant Temperature Sensor which plugs into the hard line just ABOVE the water outlet. If you want the actual ECT Sending Unit, here is that also http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=659&Category_ID=548 But remember the one that will make a difference in the way your car runs is the actual SENSOR, the first two links i posted..The sending unit just sends a reading to your gauge in your dash. From what i understand the actual sensor reduces or increases spark and timing according to its reading of your coolant temp. Now if the sensor is faulty or just is a piece of crap after 10+YRS of service..I would imagine that its probably sending false readings and in turn confusing your computer?? As you saw in earlier posts on the thread, there was confusion about what was being discussed (the ECT isn't a sender. In the post you quoted in particular, he referenced a sender).Oops. That's the dash sending unit. The Yellow302 was asking for the location of the ECT. It's located on the heater bypass above the T-stat housing and has a two wire connector and is on the passenger side of the distributor.
