cooling issue 94 s/c cobra

This is my first time sending a thread so forgive me if I do this wrong.

I am having problems with my cooling on my car. I have installed new hoses,Fluidyne radiator, wired my fan on high with a relay, Autometer mech. temp. gauge, The problems started when I installed a vortech s/c. I have replaced two sets of headgaskets, due to the water ports giving out but since then I have done all these mods which seem to have helped. The problem is in the morning the temp. rises slowly and then jumps to about 220 but then goes down to 180 I have already tried several thermostats but the same result. When I have run the car at the track it seems to work excellent until I am getting back to the pits the temperature kicks up to 230, is this normal? I would appreciate any advise don't want to replace head gaskets again but if I have to what do you think of the Cometic gaskets?

Sorry best times on 1/4 were 12.8 @ 109 first time out did not want to brake anything.

Second time out was 12.9 @ 88 had to let off in third since hose to resevoire came undone and belts slipped have not been back

Strange that you've upgraded mostly all the cooling system and still run hot. You're not running a under drive h2o pulley are you(maybe dumb question but you never know)?

no I took my underdrive pulleys off the charger came with new ones. Do you think my system may have air? I have tried a 160,192,and two 180 thermostates.

Very interesting. Indeed interesting. Ever considered a higher flowing water pump? I'm looking into one myself. The cooling stuff I have done is in my sig and my car runs well with it, however unlike you, i don't have a S/C so I don't know what to tell you. The car is moving around close to idle in the pits so it's not as fast as when driving, therefore the engine isn't circulating the cooling system as fast. I would suggest maybe investigating the water pump, water wetter, or an aftermarket fan. Try the cheapest first which is the water wetter coolant additive. Some people swear by it.

I don't know what to tell you about your overheating, you still running stock gt/40 heads? What king of head gaskets did you use?

Since it's fluctuating and not sticking with either Hot or Cold then it could be air in the system. With the car cold start it up with the radiator cap off. Put the heater on Norm/Max. When the stat opens refill, wait 2 minutes then put the cap back on. Also and this sounds dumb but people put thermostats on backwards all the time. Make sure the spring side is in the lower intake. This will also make the temp fluctuate.

Stewart makes a water pump for 94-95 302's, a few on the board use 'em.

The 94-95 is the last one on the page. Stewart only makes a Stage 1 for our cars. I've been shopping around for one, and the prices on the Stewart website are the best I've found.

I'm having the same problem, however i've got a feeling it's the ground or something related to it. Other Cobra owners on svtperformance have complained of the same thing and most have cured it with replacing the ground that runs to the block. I'll try it and see if that works and report my findings if i ever get around to it.
