Correct LED turn signal wiring questions..

I am tired of my dim brake lights so I am going to put in some LED taillights as well as LED front turn signals. I understand that I need to use a new turn signal flasher to make them function correctly, but I am not sure which one.

Yearone has 2 different LED flashers, one of them has 2 terminals and one has 3 terminals, how do I know which one I need?

Also, (and feel stupid asking this) where is the flasher located?? In a quick look I thought it would be near the fuse panel but I did not see it anywhere, is it just way tucked up in the dash?

on the 65-66 mustangs it is behind the dash. as for the needed flasher, as i recall it takes a two prong flasher, but check the old one first, it has been a long time since i replaced one.

If you're going with non sequential LEDs and are just going for brighter than stock, your flasher should be fine. However if you're going for sequentials you'll be needing a new unit.
On the other hand if you enjoy the cheap insurance of replacing a possibly 45 year old electrical part, knock yourself out

It should be a 2 prong flasher and is on the back of the fresh air vent on the driver side.

Another good way to go is just get a pair of these GE Nighthawk Bulbs. These are noticably brighter than stock especially when braking.

Here they are. You can also get them in amber if you have clear front lenses.

I have the Scott Drake incandescent sequential kit. I got the deluxe one with composite lenses. I think they are awesome. I like how they sequence more like a Cougar or Thunderbird. They flow instead of stepping like the LED. Also they sequence once when braking, which the LED does not do.

If you do go LED, go with Mustang Project ones. They are less pixelated looking.

Mustang Projects will set you up with everything you need from the front to the rear plus flashers. Don't forget the emergency flasher if your car has them. I have used several sets of MP units on different cars.

no, the stock flasher will not work with led bulbs as they do not draw enough current to allow the flasher to flash. an electronic flasher is needed, but understand that you lose the ability to tell if a bulb has burnt out with the electronic flasher.

I have the whole Mustang Projects sequential setup. You can get the flasher assembly from them, and the only thing that is different is NO sound. That is not a big deal, but I am sure someone will come up with something that will give you that clicking sound. Good luck

I will be buying them from Year One because I have a gift certificate and a 20% discount code for them. I personally don't like the sequential tail lights anyway.

Would it be easier to get at the flasher if I full the instrument bezel?

So it sounds like I need the 2-prong, what is the 3 prong one for then? ..emergency flashers maybe? I certainly wouldn't mind adding emergency flashers if it was just as easy as putting in the 3 prong and adding a switch.

The click thing is interesting, I didn't realize I would lose that, I wonder if I can pull something from a new car to get that since Mustang Project says they will only sell with the light kit.

You may not be able to mix the two systems. Call them and see what they say.

The stock flasher can be accessed by reaching to the front (of the car) side of the drivers vent tube. There is a bracket on the vent it clips into. Sometimes helps to track it by sound too.

The emergency flasher is also a two prong, heavy duty because of the normal four bulbs flashing.

Doesn't year one sell a flasher?

Pulling the instrument cluster won't help, you have to lay under the dash to get to the flasher.
