Anyone done it yet? My 70 is mid restoration, lots of chopping so all original is a waste anyways. It is the car in the Avitar, but a Coyote would get me over 400 real fast and make it a pretty good daily driver. Thoughts?
article in this months modified mustang and fords. Says you will need to ise a mustang II front end or strut and tower notch will need to be done - engine t00 wide. Also some trans tunnel work would be necessary. Interesting idea but you can get a nice stroker for less than a coyote and not have to worry about fit.
If you like the way the new OHC Fords make power I think the Coyote is a great choice. It's a lot of money and will be a significant amount of work to put it in the car and make it work, but a great motor too. I think if you have the cash, knowledge, time and you want to do it you should go for it! Have fun! Yes you can make similar power with a stroked 302 or more power with a stroked 351C or 351W, but then you won't have the look or sound of the Coyote motor. Also, ~400 hp is a great place to be for a fun car. You don't really need more. I recently bought a 2011 Mustang - it's only a V6, but I've driven the V8 too and I love how smooth they are. The older engines tend to be a lot more peaky. I also generally dislike carbs.

I've got a 2007 GT along with the 70 with 347 stroker. The 2007 puts out about 300 hp same as new 6. It feels kind of anemic after driving the 70. I would have to go with a v8 in a new one.

I thought about buying a GT, but it's a lot of power to drive on the Minnesota snow and ice. I got a good deal on a used 2011 V6 car and it's fun enough for me. I would rather get by spending less as long as I still enjoy the car. I really love the 2011. It drives great and is really comfortable in traffic. The 6 speed is a blast. Nice to get by spending $15k - about 1/2 what a new GT runs and my insurance rate actually went down from the Fiesta I was driving before. The other day I was driving around and chirped the tires on my 2-3 shift at about 60 mph, so it's still got the fun factor, even with the fuel economy gears in it.
Also, I'm putting a 408 Cleveland in an '87 Fox - that will be my fun summer car. If I want more power than the 4V iron heads give me, I'll put CHI heads on the Clevo. If my daily driver made equal power to the fun car, why even have the fun car?
Since my '70 is a convertible I'm going to keep it 302 based. I might go with a 347 stroker and aluminum heads, but keep it under 400 hp.
