Things were OK, then I changed the ignition lock cylinder. Now cranks, almost starts but dies. Then it will just crank. If I let it set a hour or so, it will try to start then die, then only cranks. Checked for fuel at the test port; nothing. Fuel pump is running, I hear it. Got a pressure test gauge. Hooked it up-in the Ig On-Eng off, reads 0. If I crank it still reads 0. But a little fuel dribbles out when I disconnect the gauge. Seems to be starved for fuel. I have not tried to run it with something sprayed into the throttle body. Kinda want to hear from someone here first. It's been sitting a few days since I last ran it and I got the lock cylinder installed and worked the window regulators while I had it down. Now I'm dead in the driveway.

New Lock Cylinder... Does that mean new keys too?

If so, take one of your old keys and tape it to the steering column near the ignition switch. Now, put the new key in the ignition and see if it starts.

If it does, there is a 45 minute procedure for reprogramming the PATS to the new keys or you can get a locksmith to change the tumblers to match your old keys.

Thanks for answering me. Your suggestion is warranted. However, the new lock/keys are not transponders. So I have the original keys next to the column. It is weird that the first time I try it does "start", runs for a second or two then dies. After that it will just crank unless I let it sit for a time. I have got transponder blanks to cut for the new set of keys and then go thru the reprogram dance with those. Maybe I should-a bought the Lotus Europa?

Hey, you were so close on this one. To remove the old lock cylinder, I had to pull the steering column totally out. I know that should not have been necessary but this one was hacked up previously and required judicious tapping. Somehow, some way the programmed key I had got deprogrammed. PATS locked me out entirely. I scanned the car with my XTool and found the PATS codes confirming the trouble. Using the XTool Special Functions I reprogrammed that key and 8 minutes later...VROOM! Back in business. Your suggestions got me looking into it differently, so thank you. Now on with the workflow.

I am surprised you didn't have a PATS light. Would make sense but then... Most of the PATS stuff is voodoo to me.

That sounds like a great scanner but man are they expensive. Which model do you have that can reprogram keys?

Amen brother. I'm trying to learn what I can about the PATS but so far I'm a lost ball in high weeds.

Hey, hope 2025 is starting well for you. My Xtool is the D8S. I got it on sale, I think at Walmort.com of all places. I looked at lots of scanners at the time I was working with my 2000's era Toyotas. I went with this model and Xtool because of features and price (about $600). I did not need bluetooth/wifi so saved some $ there. It had done what I needed for my Toyotas and then I got the Pony in September and started to fix so much hackery. The key thing just bugged me, one key to start it another for the doors. I got door/ignition set then got new PATS keys cut, then programmed them. Before the Xtool I had a locksmith program a key for my Avalon, $100 and one for my Tacoma, $100. So I think the Xtool is a good deal overall. Good hearing from you.

Thanks for the info. That's a nice scanner. I had never heard of that brand before. Amazon has them for a little over $500 on sale right now but I'm not ready shell out that much right now since I have a pretty new scanner. It can bleed brakes and some other stuff but it can't program keys.
