Critique this car for me

I have been communicating with the owner, aside from price, please let me know what you see wrong with the car. My main concern is the fender alignment with the front Shelby face, looks like it has the wrong fenders? At the same time some good comments on the things you like about it would be nice.

You need to have him send you pictures of the engine compartment and under carriage. Who knows what these look like. Have him also stick his head under the dash and take a photo of the vent ballons to see if you can see some cowl rust. See if shock towers have been drilled to access grease zerks for UCA's; Pics of frame rails from inside engine compartment. Pics from inside trunk of 1/4 panels (sometimes you can see patch panel repair here). Looks nice on the outside but, its the stuf on the inside that you need to worry about.

At that price, that is definately worth a trip to see in person. Better to pay $1000 to see it then $25,000 to buy it and be sorry.

Well, the reproduction fiberglass is notoriously ill-fitting and typically takes a lot of body shop labor to get it to fit nicely. When you just bolt it on and paint it this car is what you get. The '68 stuff is extra difficult, because the hood has to be aligned on all 4 sides instead of just 3. We used to have an original '68 KR and this was a pain to get right.

It's a nice car though, if you're looking for something with a cage. Unless you specifically need it for something, those door bars would get old fast. There's a lot of good stuff there and you could build a fun street car out of it.

I'd have to see undercarriage pics to really say whether I like it or not. You'd think a seller with that much feedback in the business would know that, so are they hiding something?

Strongly agree. If you're serious about this, don't even think about making an offer without going to see it in person. Plus, the seller is in the same state (huge as it may be) as you. If possible, bring an experienced friend.

There's a lot wrong with the car from a 'clone" point of view. Sort of a FrankenStang kinda thing going on there. If you like all the stuff he put together than that is a good thing, if not...well...

Personally speaking, he took all the fugly parts of a 68 and replaced the beautifull stuff from the 67 with them, but that is just MY opinion

Also, there's an awful lot of expensive stuff missing for the high asking price, again just my opinion. His commentary is almost entirely about the 428CJ but there's not a single picture?

I have a sinking suspicion that he's bailing out of this project because he found something very wrong somewhere and realized he's only halfway there on cost or somthing. I'd never pay $25K for a car I could not drive.

My thoughts exactly. I would go see it. Look at it up close. With that many pics, why is there no engine pics ? or exhaust pics ? undercarriage ? 25k for a clone ? Hmm I say get that same year and do the clone project your self from a running car.

If the clone were done correctly I'd pay considerably more than that. I could even see paying $65+ for a perfect reproduction of a 67 GT-500, Of course it would have to be complete and accurate other than the SA-VIN, and to get that "+" I mentioned it would of course need a 427

For a "perfect" 68 GT-500 with a real 428CJ I can see going as high at $37,500...I'm just not a fan of them, the interiors are barf material.
