This is my first post on SN. Here's a run down on my ride.
'01 Gt Automatic, 30000 miles.
Steeda UD Pulleys
Densecharger CAI
Flowmaster 40s, to be switched to Magnapacks this week.
Mobil 1 0w20 synthetic oil.

This is a daily driver, never seen the track and may see it once or twice. I am at a crossroads concerning gears. My wife also drives the GT so I need to keep it safe for her. Was going to go with 3.73s but heard it will make my gas milage lower. I am deciding between the gears and a Diablo Predator programmer. Which would you choose and why? And yes, I've heard go with 4.10s for the last 6 months. Any suggestions or informed opinions would be welcome!

just thought I would post to getyou back on top so people cansee you question. Ican't really give a fact based opinion on this cause I have neither gears (soon) or a programmer. I have a non fact based one though. The programer will change where your auto will shift in the rpm band while the gears just help the car get up into is power quicker and that in turn will cause a drop in MPG. My plan is to go with the 4.10 this winter because I want as
much bang for the buck when it comes to gears and I don't want to nore do I have the money to get 3.73 and then change my mind and opt for 4.10 later. You could see gas mileage improvements with the programer because I think it will adjust the timing as well but Diabio could answer that for you. From what you have said so far you kinda just want a Gt that's a little more fun so I would go with the programmer. Sorry if I didn't help

In all honesly I would get both because if you have gears you will have to adjust for the speedo and shift point difference the gears add. You can do that with a tuner so get both.

If you go with gears, you will need to get the programmer, a speedcal, or a chip to correct your speedo. As said above I would get both. I wouldnt worry to much about mpg with 3.73's. I have them on my 5 speed and get anywhere from 280-320 miles per tank. They will also be very tolerable for daily driving.

Off topic, where about in NC is Cornelius?

3.73's is what I would do, you wouldnt feel much from 3.55's and 4.10's would probably be a little over the edge for a daily driver. 3.73's have been popular forever, and theres a reason why. Just thinking about it already has me smelling gear oil again...

People keep telling me that, but for what I want I think they'll be fine.

I have 4:10s w/Diablosport Predator on my auto and it is driven daily. I must say the car is running superbly now. And the gas mileage drop is only marginal.

I've been there and I think you need to listen to the people who keep telling you that. You need 4.10s in an auto. Mine is a daily driver also. I can only try...

not really a mistake, they're great, but i still want more pull. so comming from an auto+3.73'er you should go for the 4.10's, even with the 3.73's i never seen a milage drop, i doubt there's a noticable differance in gas guzzling with 4.10's.

This is what the stock ratio should've been from the start, IMO. Especially in an auto.

I think I've been pushed over the edge, I know I'll want 4:10s after I install the 3.73s. Thanks for helping me decide!
