My cruise control stopped working the other day when I was driving down the highway. I drive an 89 5.0 convertible. I was wondering if someone knew some of the things that could cause this. I checked the fuses and there wasn't a problem there. I don't know much about the electrical stuff on the car and could use some help, Thanks.

Recheck the CC fuse. Sometimes they burn in a strange way - the fuse looks ok from the outside.

Good luck.

Try checking your vacuum dump valve. It's located on the brake pedal. Check to see if it's pulled out of it's socket.

If your horn and cigarette lighter works, then you do not need to ch eck for a blown fuse. They all ride the same circuit.

If your cigarette lighter and horn don't work, then count on chaging the fuse - at 20amps

Just a long shot, but if these don't work try to start the car without the clutch engaged. My clutch bypass for the cruise was disconnected for the remote start years ago and never reconnected. No cruise...

My cruise control (89 LX, 5.0, AOD) has gone out twice. The 1st repair was to replace the servo. Now it's gone out again and the servo is obsolete. Ford has no new ones anywhere. Junkyards and ebay are the only answers. Yuk.

Each failure was the same. I had the cruise engaged and heard an audible "click". At the same time, I felt the accelerator pedal pop up and hit my foot.

If this sounds like anything other than the servo, please let me know.

Otherwise, how difficult is it to get to the underside on the driver-side front fender?

This is something I havent heard of. Im assuming if this were the case you would hear and audible vacuum leak in the cab?

My cruise and horn also stopped working the other day. Checked the fuses and didnt find anything amiss. I'm going to be looking into this over the next couple days. I need to take the center console out and clean up some wiring under the dash. I will let you know what i find.

One another note...is the horn vacuum operated at any point? Or is it simply electrical? Thanks

Horn is electrical - that is unless you consider chasing the wires when it fails, in which case it sucks (a little vacuum humor).

My cruise got fixed. A used servo was installed since new ones aren't available. The guys at the speed shop said the throttle linkage was gummed up and binding enough to cause the servo cable to snap. They cleaned it up and so far, so good.

cruise and horn

If your cruise and your horn stop working it's probably your clock spring. My '92's went out and after I changed it everything started working. The clock spring is a plastic mechanism with pigtails coming out of it. It's in your steering wheel under the air bag. Be careful fooling around with the air bag. I had disconnected my battery just to be safe. Good luck and great site guys.

Of course he can solve the whole problem like I did.....start working on those underdash wires like you mentioned and you might end up with your car dead! I have been chasing the wire rats nest a previous 10 yr old left us, and starting Friday she's dead in the water. No ignition, period. And yes, the CC didn't work on this one either! Just kidding, hope you have everything worked out by now. My hatch is still dead darn it.

When I use the Set/Accel button on my CC it continues to climb speed instead of setting at the desired speed. Would a faulty CC servo cause this issue?
