I posted a thread recently about what to build if you had some cash to burn and now it is time to finalize the ideas. I was thinking of using either a cobra motor or a new assembly for my 96GT but I can't make the decision. I am looking at D.S.S. motors and thinking of using the 4.6 Pro Modular motor they offer with some stage 3 PI heads with springs and valves and VT cams. My other option is stepping it up to a stroker 5.0 motor but I am kinda leary of the stroker. I would prefer to stay N/A and want something that will stick me solidly into the low 12's to high 11's. What I need to know is if that is feasable with this set up and stay a driver as well. The rear end is taken care of and the tranny will be redone as well so drivetrain shouldn't be an issue. Oh, if it helps I am running an automatic. I don't race a lot but I want the capability if I choose to and my main desire is to be able to whip up on some LS1 camaros and know that I have some power when I want it. If you guys have a better suggestion then I am open to ideas and would appreciate some help on info about D.S.S motors and other motors out there that are comparable. If anyone is running a set up that sticks them in this arena I would love to hear about what you've done or what you think I should do. As I said before this is my first mustang and I want it done right. :nice:

i have a dss shortblock and it is awsome but if i had to do it overagain i would either put in a 5.4 or the stroked 4.6, like they say "there is no replacement for displacement", and if you are going to spend that much on heads you may as well put dohc heads on, they flow better than a ported set of sohc heads.
Just my .02 and wishing that was the route i took.

Did you ever get your tune? I figured that a DSS motor would put out more power than 430 with a blower. Would their really be a lot more work involved with putting on the DOHC than using the PI heads? Also, did you modify your tranny any when you upgraded your motor? I wrote down your parents number and will give them a call when I do mine. I am still trying to decide on whether to go bigger or not but I would prefer N/A and want to be able to hit 12's easily and venture into high 11's. Honestly though your set up has me worried because if 430RWHP only gets 12.5 then I wonder what it will take to get 11's? Do you really think the DSS shortblock gave you a good foundation to run off of? Which set up are you running?

helloooooooooooo!! Anybody out there that can help or add some advice? If I get a whole new shortblock then how hard would putting on the 4v heads be? I know jack about Cobra motors.
