D8OE heads? waste of time?

are these heads worth anything? i read some other posts and people are saying compression ratio is hurt swaping from early 289 heads to these 302 heads?

they make great boat anchors. they are among the worst factory small block heads out there. putting them on a 289 will definitely kill your compression. even going to a 69-70 351 windsor head is going to drop it about 1/2 to 1 full point and the d80 head will be close to points and possible more.

don't bother with the late 70s stuff.

The three factory heads to choose from are the 289 heads, the C9/D0 351 heads and the E7s.

Keep your heads and either port them yourself or have it done somewhere if you are worried about them.

Going from the 289's 54 cc chambers to the D8OE's 70 cc's is a huge drop in compression. At least 2 points.

Or do a search for Thumper460 (he's mostly in the 5.0 tech section.

His ported E7s just won on Pinks!!

He has 5.0's running low 12s with the stock E7 heads and NO power adders....
