Damn Citation!!!

I got pulled over one time and the cop told me almost right away I was getting a ticket for going 12 over. So since I knew I was getting a ticket I said I wanted to see the radar. He was not happy about showing me but did, and when I read it, it was only 11 over I know it is only 1 mph but I still told him I wanted to ticket to read 11 and not 12. We argued for a while and I told him I would see him in court.I realize I let my temper get to me but he came back to my car with just a warning. Im not saying it would have happened for you but I was glad it worked.

In my town, I'm the only ford guy. This only ford guy drives a bright red 95 cobra with chrome 18" saleens, and an 04 sonic blue lightning. Talk about obnoxious looking vehicles to those who aren't appreciative. The cops in my small hamlet hate my GUTS. I've been pulled over and lied to about a million times. Eventually I started arguing. When I argued, I stopped getting pulled over, and they stopped writing me up. Everyone says, don't argue with them, but after a while you gotta stick up for yourself. The radar/ladar/laser gun HAS to hold old readouts as evidence. ask to see the saved readout of you speeding. If there's no evidence, legally, ANYTHING's word for word. Obviously, they'll take the cop's word over yours, but in a bigger town/city, where the cop is not BFing the judge and vice versa, you might actually be able to win. Judges like to see responsibility out of youngsters. If you're going to school, and can bring in evidence that your speedo is malfunctioning, you just might win. That effort put forth to simply show up and argue is enough for a lot of judges.

my story with the law:
I'm doing a billion miles an hour, like 135, when I see a low-slung car in the median. I slow down, see the classic LS1 camaro body, and speed up. I look again, and see a camaro SS with chrome 18s, slammed, complete with LED light rack. The damn thing had flames coming off of the "e" in "police". I do the speed limit for ten miles, with no sign of him, and punch it. I'm back to doing about 135-140 when I have to pass two eighteen wheelers in the slow lane, going around a curve. Still no sign of the 'maro cop. I slow to about 90, and negotiate the curve. I'm about to get on it again when I look up at the trucker, he looks down at me, then looks behind me. My heart sank before I even looked in my rearview. There he was, bumper to bumper with me. No BS, there was NO sign of him before that. I live in a FLAT part of the world, the aforementioned curve being the only one on that road. There was no point in wondering if he was going to pull me over, so I slowed down and headed for the shoulder. When we were down to the speed limit, he put his lights on. He yelled, asked me what I did for a living, saw my military I.D., and mentioned he was a reservist. His tone changed instantly, and he started asking me about my car. He made me pop the hood, offered to pop his, (I humored him and looked, even though I didn't care) and gave me a warning. I couldn't F#$%ing believe it. I swear on my manhood this story is true. None of my buddies believed me at the time. This was no cop package camaro, this was a friggin SS that was all tricked out. He told me he had it damn near topped out to catch me by surprise, and that sneak attacks were an old trade secret.

So I should send the judge a letter saying I'll go to traffic school if you drop it to 9 over?

Would that conflict with getting a lawyer?

Just plead not guilty and go to court dont send a letter or get a lawer its only a ticket.. Also your insurance wont go up unless you get a new policy and they have to recheck your drivers record.. I got my liscense suspended 3times with the same insurance company policy for speeding and my premium never moved.. Your making more out of this than you need to.. And why the hell would you take traffic school its a ticket for 15 over not a DUI i had a 31 over ticket and diddnt get traffic school.

And your story is bull shat theres no way he pulled you over and asked you to pop your hood just because your in the military no statepoliceman is gonna do that. Go watch another movie...

Laws in your state may vary:

I give out citations as part of my job, so I have a bit of inside knowledge.

1. A printout of your speedometer not working or being out of calibration will NOT help you at all. It is your responsibility for your car to be working properly, and fix your speedo when you change wheels/tires, rear end gears etc.
2. In most states, Police don't have to show you the radar/lidar display. It is a common misconception that this is 'your right' - it isn't. No speed measuring device I have ever seen keeps a log of previous speeds. You can lock in one speed at a time, it only saves until you press the button again.

3. A Police Officer who would lie about a speeding ticket, inflating your speed or whatever, simply put, is scum. There are plenty of legitimate speeders out there, so creating one is very, very low. However, cops have nothing to gain by doing this, it does not happen often. Radar doesn't lie, you driving down the road and concrentrating on 5 different things, and checking your speed by glancing at your speedo, it is more likely you weren't sure exactly how fast you were going, much less a guess as accurate as 64?!

4. There is a lot of good advice in this thread. Fight the ticket, plead not guilty, whatever. Go to court, there is a good chance the Officer won't show, we have lives, too. Speak to the Officer, before going in front of the judge, and see if you can work something out, like a reduced fine, dropping the speed, placing the ticket on file etc.

5. I would not recommend EVER saying " I just don't think I was going that fast." You are calling the Officer a liar, in so many words, and if that is your defense, trust me, you will lose.

Yes, there are cops out there that will artificially inflate your speed, it has happened to me, more times than I would like to admit. There are also PD's that have quota's on writing citations, even though it is morally wrong, and often illegal. Most of the time, the Police are legit, doing a difficult job, and if you own up to your mistake, it will go a lot better for you. 2cents...

Yes. You have nothing to lose. You already have the citation, the worst that could happen, is that you will lose, and still have to pay it (in full) The best outcome, you pay a reduced fine or the whole thing could possibly go away.

I knew someone would try to call me out. I love stangnet. Anyway, it's a real story, it really happened and I swear on my wang. That night, I came home, and noone believed me. I've been repeatedly telling the story for years, and my friends might actually be starting to believe me. But alas, I can't prove something like that, cause noone was there.
