dash brake light

everytime I touch the brake the brake light on the dash keeps lighting up then goes awaw after a few seconds Anybody have any clue ???? thanks

As far as I know, the brake light in the cluster is only used for the parking brake. There is a sensor on the parking brake handle that is closed when the handle is down. Perhaps your sensor is going bad and needs to be replaced.

This has absolutely nothing to do with your brakes, brake fluid, or anything else like that. As chythar stated, you have a problem with the parking brake switch. It is located on your parking brake handle assembly. You can either mess around with it, opr just go ahead and replace it. It might even be a loose wire.

Get that center console out and check it out.

I'm with grngt50 on this. The light could be either.
If you find you are low on brake fluid, that could be an indication of worn brake pads.
If you suspect it's the e-brake sw. you don't have to remove the console.

Actually, after some research through Google it IS possible that the brake fluid is low. But if the fluid is full than look into the parking brake switch.

The console is held in with 4 screws and takes two minutes to completely remove..

I'd pull the console... Disconnect the single parking brake switch wire, and see what happens...

That light is your "Brake System Warning Light". It's most common function is to indicate when your parking brake is engaged, but it's most important function is to let you know that there is something wrong with your brake system!

With modern brakes it's not as big a deal, since we're running dual bowl M/Cs that have different chambers and different plumbing for front and rear brakes, but on the older Mustangs, you had a single bowl MC, and when you lost pressure, you got the warning light to tell you that your brakes were about to FAIL.

Modern systems are much better, don't have near the problems with leaks, fade, etc, so most people's experience with the light coming on is what other posters have said--your fluid level is low...generally because of excessive brake wear.

BUT, a wise person would do a thorough inspection of their entire brake system, to determine if you have any of the following problems:

1) Fluid leaks
2) Excessively warn pads
3) Fluid level correct (and fluid quality OK).

Don't just add fluid and think you've solved the problem. If your fluid level has dropped far enough that your warning light is on, you've either got a leak (which is bad) or your brakes are worn to the point that you've got so much fluid in your calipers that the M/C is almost drained (which isn't as bad, but you really should look at replacing your pads!).
