I was wondering if anyone likes using the stock gauges in mustangs and if so how could I go about hooking everything up with them. When I got my car the only thing that worked was the speedo. But it is a full dash with the alt, oil, temp, and tach. The guy I got it off of wasnt to big into hooking all that stuff up I guess. Anyone know where I could start?

Easiest way buy an original cheap cluster off of ebay or go to scrapyard

im sorry i was more over referring to how to hook up the wires for my existing because i know it works. I heard the tach runs off the distributor... i only have 3 wires going to my distributor... is this right? How can I hook up the existing temp gauge? The original motor in my stang was a 6 cyc but it was removed a long long time ago. Will this still work? Will have I have to get a new temp sender for the 302?

If it had a 6, the tach should have a screw (you see it when you remove the instrument trim) to choose 4-6-8, so it should work.

First, i'd remove the cluster to check :
_ the voltage regulator is there and ok (you need it for Oil, Fuel, Temp)
_ the printed circuit has no cuts
_ there are no hanging/cut wires close to cluster connectors on the harness
_ the two connectors fit well on the cluster when you plug them

This should be a good start.

For a deeper diagnostic, i'd buy the vacuum/electrical manual for your year.

try looking at this site and see if it helps. It should have most of the wiring diagrams.
