dash illumination nightmare

my dash lights wont work. i tried figing it out but no luck. it keeps blowing the day/night illumination ac clutch fuse and the instrument illumination/iso symbol fuse. i changed the dimmer no luck. i thought maybe somthing in the cluster was shorting out so i unplugged everything turned the light on and it bleew the fuse still. the fuses doesnt blow right away it takes about 2 seconds. any help will be apreciated. im lost and goin nuts

sounds like a wire is grounding out somewhere, I had this problem when i had a wire in my radio come loose

I have recently had this issue with my 91L x. I could not find anything shorting out. What I did do is turn my dimmer down about half way. I have not blow a fuse yet. This leads me to believe that there may be an issue with my dimmer switch. Hope this helps, if it does, I would be interested in knowing. Good luck!

i have no dash lights what so ever no matter where the dimmer is. im tempted to change the dash even tho i really really dont want to

Hey blue87lx,

Have you tried turning down the dimmer all the way, replace the fuse, turn lights on and then slowly turn up the dimmer? Should have clarified this in my first post.
